Job Description: Food Service Supervisor
Purpose:
The Food Service Supervisor oversees the daily operation of the school nutrition program for Liberal USD 480 and ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. This position supports the delivery of nutritious, safe, and high-quality meals to students and staff while maintaining efficient and effective program operations.

Superintendent of Schools or Designee
Payment Rate:
Established annually by the Board of Education
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; college-level coursework in business, nutrition, food service management, accounting, or related field preferred
- Experience in Child Nutrition Programs or institutional food preparation and kitchen management
- Certification of Health for School Personnel on file (after employment offer)
- Strong personnel management and leadership skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Record-keeping, math, and basic accounting skills
- Ability to use computers and relevant software systems
- Ability to interact positively with students, staff, and community members
- Knowledge of safe food handling procedures and completion of required KSDE/KDA food safety training
- Ability to train, supervise, and support staff development
- Willingness to pursue ongoing professional growth
- Completion of USDA Professional Standards training requirements as applicable
Essential Functions:
- Supervise and coordinate school food service operations to ensure nutritious and safe meals
- Ensure all activities align with district policies and KSDE standards
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and the community
- Adapt to changing needs and perform assigned duties efficiently
- Support the mission and educational goals of Liberal USD 480
- Provide leadership and direction to food service staff
- Maintain accurate and timely records
- Ensure confidentiality and use sound professional judgment
- Participate in required annual professional development
Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions:
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes noisy environment
- Flexibility in work hours as needed
- Ability to travel between district buildings
General Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily operations of the district’s food service program to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
- Assist in developing short- and long-term goals aligned with district objectives
- Ensure compliance with all Child Nutrition Program (CNP) regulations
- Monitor food service operations across all sites for quality and consistency
- Assist in managing budgets, meal pricing, and cost controls
- Maintain accurate records and required documentation
- Oversee free and reduced meal application processes and compliance
- Support implementation of personnel policies and procedures
- Assist in hiring, training, and evaluating food service staff
- Promote professional development opportunities for staff
- Help plan menus that meet nutritional guidelines and student preferences
- Ensure procurement practices follow all regulations
- Maintain proper inventory, storage, and food safety standards
- Assist in equipment planning and facility needs
- Ensure sanitation and safety standards are consistently met
- Support high-quality food preparation and service standards
- Assist in emergency and disaster meal planning as needed
- Promote the food service program to increase participation
- Collaborate with district staff, families, and community stakeholders
- Support nutrition education initiatives
- Assist with state reviews and implement corrective actions if needed
Terms of Employment:
Length of contract and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy.
