Qualifications

 

Primary Purpose:                            

To operate a department, which meets or exceeds standards set forth by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, and to perform with skill multiple tasks necessary to operate a department in which nutritious, appealing, and satisfying meals are prepared and served under high standards of sanitation and safety to all students.

 

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED (English)

Food Handler’s Certificate

            

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of distribution and logistics

Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English                

 

Experience:

1 years School Food Service (preferred)

                                               

 

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable

Technical Skills, Responsibilities and Duties

 

In PSJA ISD, we hire individuals who demonstrate excellence in these technical areas as they lead others

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Sets up station for distributing current day’s items; organizes work area by obtaining food items and necessary equipment.
  • Always checks for amounts to prepare on special function requests.
  • Maintains a neat, orderly work area; maintains the highest standards of safety and sanitation.
  • Clearly labels food items for proper distribution or proper storage.
  • Available to work in other food service areas if needed.
  • Ensures that proper techniques are used in storage, handling, and holding all food items, including leftovers.
  • Demonstrates a consistent level of performance.
  • Knows basic food preparation techniques, including receiving, storage, preparation, and holding of food items.
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of all policies and procedures.
  • Reports to supervisor any accidents or problems occurring in the kitchen.
  • Demonstrates a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all co-workers.
  • Consistently coordinates workload in order for food to be delivered on time obtaining authorized signature for supplies.
  • Complies with rules and regulations applied by Texas Education Agency and PSJA School Board Policies.
  • Observes Food Service Department uniform dress code.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, workshops, demonstrations, seminars.
  • Assist with heavy lifting when filling orders.
  • Complete annual professional standard requirements.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture:

Prolonged standing; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Lifting:

Occasional light lifting and carrying (more than 15 pounds)

May work prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands:

Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
