Availability: Full-Time (40 hours)
Shifts are based on operation hours of 7am-9pm. Current shift priorities include the following:
- PM Full Shift: approximately 1:00pm-9:30pm
- Weekends Required
- Open availability (open–close schedules) is welcome
We are currently seeking Shift Supervisor to join our team at Whalers General Store at the Kamaole Center — a busy island market serving both local residents and visitors with everyday essentials, souvenirs, and grab-and-go items.
Shift Supervisors assist the Store Manager in maintaining a positive environment that delivers fast, efficient, and friendly service to both customers and team members. This role partners with the Store Manager and Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day supervision of front-end operations, including overseeing cash registers, supporting equipment, and cashier functions.
Shift Supervisors support training, customer service, and product knowledge development while promoting safe work practices and a strong commitment to company values. They lead by example and ensure that World Class Service standards are consistently achieved. This position directly supervises team members and serves as Manager on Duty in the absence of the Store Manager.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Perform sales duties as required

Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful service.
- Assists customers in locating specific items and making their selections of merchandise.
- Provide accurate and efficient checkout using the store’s computerized POS system.

Operate a cash register machine to itemize, record and total customer merchandise purchases.

Counts money in register and reconciles cash, checks, and charges at the end of work shift.
- Follow all inventory control procedures to maximize product freshness, quality, turnover and availability for maximum sales.

Consistently monitors, trains, coaches and encourages team members to meet the Company’s service standards.

Promotes and practices safe work habits, reporting potential safety hazards, operational inconsistencies and team member incidents to the store manager.

Reports/documents team member accidents, conducts initial investigation and determinations of root cause in the interest of maintaining a safe work environment.

Observe security standards by staying alert and being aware of customer actions and behavior.
- Maintain regular cleaning standards in accordance with store policy, departmental standards and state and local health regulations on a consistent basis.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum of one (1) year of retail experience required

Minimum of one (1) year of cashier experience preferred

Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to process payments, provide change, and reconcile cash at the end of a shift.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-organized and detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, coworkers, and management.
- Ability to read and identify merchandise items and operate computerized cash register systems.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver items weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Demonstrates a positive, service-oriented attitude and a commitment to providing a welcoming customer experience.
- Must possess a valid TB clearance as required by local regulations.
- Must comply with all company policies, procedures, and workplace requirements.

Eligibility is dependent on position and status of full-time, part-time, or casual.
*The advertised rate of this posting consists of a starting base pay rate of $16.75, plus a premium of $3.00 that is currently offered for this location. The premium is not included when determining compensation for non-worked hours, including, but not limited to, compensation for PTO (Sick/Vacation), non-worked Holidays, FMLA and Worker's Compensation. Compensation for all non-worked hours is calculated on the base pay rate only, not the advertised rate of this posting.
