General Summary:

 

The Food Service Alternate Cook’s Assistant fills in for a Cook's Assistant as needed.  He/she performs various food service duties as assigned, performs related work as required, and conforms to schedules established by the Kitchen Leader. The Food Service Alternate Cook’s Assistant works under the direction of the Kitchen Leader.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs various food service utility duties.
  2. Scrapes or sprays, washes and sanitizes trays, flatware, etc.
  3. Helps wherever needed in the kitchen or cafeteria as time permits.
  4. Takes charge of the dish room.
  5. Helps serve on the line where the operation requires such service.
  6. Helps in the general cleaning of the kitchen, equipment or serving area(s) (includes separate kitchens at some sites).  Such cleaning must follow common sanitation practices.
  7. Handles cash as required.
  8. Assists in the sale of lunches and snacks or a la carte items where required.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School graduate or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience with restaurant or food service operations preferred.
  3. Ability and willingness to work up to 40 hours per week at any TCAPS food service operation.
  4. Pleasant, cheerful attitude toward student and adult customers.
  5. Ability to maintain proper sanitation practices.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis to the assigned worksite. 
  2. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  3. Duties include frequent walking and physical activity.
  4. The ability to move about the facility or building, including bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, crouching, or cutting/chopping to complete work-related tasks. 
  5. Must possess skills to safely operate a variety of standard kitchen and cooking equipment and tools.
  6. Basic technology skills required to utilize computer and/or other office equipment (printer/copy machine, etc.) consistent with work-related tasks. 
  7. The ability to listen and effectively communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
  8. The ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  9. The ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions. 
  10. The ability to work independently and in a team environment.  
  11. The ability to maintain effective time management. 
  12. The ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress or conflict situations. 
  13. Occasionally moves boxes, equipment, and other supplies weighing up to 50 lbs across the building for various needs. 
  14. The ability to drive personal vehicle to various locations throughout the district.

Environmental Conditions:

Incumbents work in an indoor environment with moderate to loud noise levels. Work may be completed in controlled temperature conditions; however, duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures. Duties may include exposure to chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards. 

 

Work Schedules:

Position may include extra hours and/or overtime, upon request.

The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
