POSITION TITLE:  Senior Food Programs Support Coordinator

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Program Manager – Senior Foods 

HRS. PER WEEK:  32 hours/week: 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Mon-Fri typical schedule, but requires periodic adjustment to 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. when serving as kitchen backup.

CLASS: Non-exempt

WAGE:  $22.70 / hour

BENEFITS: Eligible for health, vision, and dental insurance the first of the month following 30 days of employment with other benefits eligibility after a 90-day mutual introductory period is completed. Eligible for FFLC-sponsored benefits (e.g. paid time off benefits such as holidays, floating days, vacation and sick). 


SUMMARY OF POSITION: This is a cross-trained position that assists and provides backup support to the senior food programs - Meals on Wheels (MOW) and Senior Grocery. The Support Coordinator assists with essential program tasks including but not limited to delivery, kitchen duties, clerical and database work, assisting and training volunteers, conducting home visits, communicating with program recipients, and updating client records. 


Additionally, this position will serve as backup for program staff as needed. The ideal candidate will be flexible, organized, approachable, and able to work independently. They should be excited to cultivate strong team relationships, possess strong problem-solving skills, manage multiple projects with attention to detail, and remain calm under pressure. The ideal candidate will contribute to a positive work environment and have a willingness to pitch in and help wherever needed.


CROSS-TRAINING: The support coordinator will cross-train with all senior food positions and provide relief during times of increased service and serve as backup during vacations or other staff leave. 

  

PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver meals, groceries, and pet food regularly using personal and company vehicles
  • Sets up/take down delivery equipment, portion meals, prepare orders, and clean up as necessary
  • Conduct new client intakes, home visits, and annual client updates as needed
  • Answer phones, relay messages, provide program and community resource information
  • Process applications and complete data entry in Excel and program databases
  • Assist with recruitment, scheduling, and training of new volunteers
  • Support newsletters, pet food program, administrative tasks, errands, cleaning, etc.
  • Represent FOOD For Lane County to the public with knowledge and respect
  • Attend meetings as required (All-Staff, MOW Staff, MOW Coordinator, Individual Check-Ins)


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: We value all forms of experience including, unpaid work, lived experience, education, and training.


  • Experience working with vulnerable populations (older adults, low-income, multicultural clients, and multicultural clients, individuals with mental illness, dementia, trauma or cognitive limitations)
  • Responsible, self-managed, and able to work independently and in teams
  • Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented with ability to handle interruptions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, and database systems
  • Flexible and adaptable to new processes and situations 
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations (emergencies or clients experiencing a mental health crisis)
  • Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills
  • Food Handler’s Card (within 2 weeks of hire)
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license, safe driving record, current auto insurance, and ability to use personal vehicle daily for FFLC business (mileage reimbursement provided)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This work is performed in a variety of both indoor (office, warehouse, kitchen, industrial freezer, client’s home), outdoor, and vehicle settings. Requires the ability to work in all weather conditions year-round. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This role moves and lifts up to 50 pounds repeatedly, ascends stairs, enters residences, and enters/exits a vehicle up to 25 times in a two-hour period. The work involves frequent lifting, bending, twisting, reaching, walking, carrying, as well as, pushing and pulling carts, moving pallets, and transporting food and carts in and out of industrial freezers. Regular office tasks include computer work, typing, phones, and other clerical duties.
