Courtesy Clerk

The Courtesy Clerk supports daily store operations by delivering friendly and knowledgeable customer service while maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the store. The Courtesy Clerk works collaboratively with team members to create a safe, welcoming environment and ensure customers have a positive experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide friendly, professional customer service to all customers
• Foster a respectful, collaborative team environment to support efficient store operations
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
• Bag groceries carefully and efficiently, ensuring items are handled properly
• Assist customers by carrying groceries to their vehicles when needed
• Maintain cleanliness of the store, including aisles, restrooms, and entry areas
• Retrieve shopping baskets and carts and keep cart areas organized
• Help stock shelves and return misplaced items to their proper locations
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and fully stocked
• Dishwashing as needed
• Assist customers with questions and direct them to appropriate store sections
• Request assistance when necessary to ensure smooth operations
• Promptly clean spills and remove hazards to maintain a safe environment
• Report equipment problems or safety concerns to a Person-in-Charge (PIC) or manager
• Review the department communication log before each shift
• Attend and participate in all team and storewide meetings and training sessions
• Help train new team members
• Follow opening and closing procedures as assigned
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education: Valid WA Food Worker Card or ability to obtain within two weeks of hire

Experience: Natural food or grocery store experience preferred

Abilities, Knowledge, & Skills:

• Ability to work flexible shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required
• Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for cleaning products
• Ability to follow safety procedures and department, store, and co-op policies
• Knowledge of food safety and health regulations
• Basic math and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and Internet) • Strong attention to detail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong customer service skills

Physical Requirements

• Lift and move up to 50 pounds during shift
• Stand, walk, bend, twist, crouch, climb, and reach up to 8 hours
• Safely operate equipment such as box cutter, knives, pallet jacks, and ladders
• Occasionally work in cold environments (such as refrigerators and freezers)
• Work in a busy, noisy environment
• Remain alert, active, and safety-focused throughout the shift
