Position Summary
The Social Media Intern will support the Social Media Manager and the Marketing & External Communications Team to drive brand awareness and direct engagement with the public through Food Bank’s social media platforms. This individual will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of social strategies across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other social media efforts that are in development . This role will report to the Social Media Manager

The Social Media Intern will support the Social Media Manager and the Marketing & External Communications Team to drive brand awareness and direct engagement with the public through Food Bank’s social media platforms. This individual will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of social strategies across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other social media efforts that are in development . This role will report to the Social Media Manager
Responsibilities
- Draft and schedule social media copy for platforms including, but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
- Assist with community management across Food Bank’s social platforms, responding to queries in real-time
- Collect, organize, and assess social media analytics to better understand and support Food Bank’s social media content strategy and to help create monthly reports.
- Develop original content for Food Bank’s social channels.
- Monitor Food Bank’s position on social media and identify new opportunities to increase Food Bank’s presence and engagement on social platforms.
- Attend Food Bank events when needed across New York City to collect content for social media (photos, interviews/soundbites with neighbors, partners, and Food Bank staff).
- Partner with other Food Bank departments to bring their work to life on social
- A current student enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in marketing, digital media or journalism or related field.
- Experience creating and editing short and compelling videos for mission-driven organizations to be published on various social media platforms.
- A passion and focus for social media as a way for brands to engage, grow audiences and participate in conversations.
- Ability to think analytically and creatively.
- Deep knowledge of social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.
- Must be well-organized and have the ability to think strategically and creatively.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with a desire to collaborate and connect with others.
- Basic knowledge of interviewing/news reporting.
- Strong writing and photography skills.
- Must possess a strong work ethic and be an enthusiastic team player.
- Must be able to commute to and attend varied events in NYC.
- iPhone with portrait mode capabilities or high-quality camera.
- Meaningful, hands-on experience in talent development and select HR functions
- Exposure to both strategic and administrative aspects of nonprofit and people-focused work
- Individualized development tools such as Gallup’s CliftonStrengths and LinkedIn Learning
- Mentorship and feedback from experienced professionals
- Time with senior executives at intern specific fireside chats
- Presentation skills, present your completed project(s) to The Food Bank stakeholders
