Skills
• Acts in accordance with our Mission, Vision and Core Values and corporate policies
• Able to speak in English so understood; read and understand the written word in English
• Ability to read and understand tank readings and charts
• Knowledge and understanding of basic math
• Knows and complies with all pertinent DOT regulations
• Complete knowledge of petroleum tankers, and safe procedures practicing safe driving skills including defensive driving.
• Mechanical aptitude for operating and trouble shooting equipment
• Knows proper responses and handling of gas spills and reporting procedures
• Understand and comply with Company Hazmat Security Plan
• Understand and comply with Company Emergency Response Plan
• Regular, dependable work attendance and punctuality required; works scheduled hours
Education
• Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
• Related experience in the area of driving a tanker or similar vehicle
• Basic knowledge of trucks
• Annual training in Hazmat, Hazmat Security, Safety
Physical
• Meet all DOT requirements regarding medical qualifications
• Participate in a Drug and Alcohol Testing program
• Able to lift hoses weighing 50 pounds, shoulder height a distance in excess of five feet
• Able to climb a ladder to access the top of a tanker trailer
• Climb and out of a truck approximately 25 times per shift
• Use hand tools to remove ice from delivery fuel fills
• Able to move manhole covers weighing 20 pounds
• Able to pry open stuck or frozen fuel fill covers and/or caps
• Able to hear and understand phone and 2 way communications
• Able to distinguish colors
• Night drivers must be able to work a 12 hour shift and sleep during the day
• Withstand the rigors, while driving, of traveling on rough roads, making turns, operating both clutch and brake pedals, and the changing buoyancy of an air suspension seat; able to drive extended periods of time
• Able to work in all outside weather conditions
• Able to tolerate occasional exposure to gas fumes
Travel
• Able to attend mandatory seminars
• Maintain CDL and its endorsements
• Maintain TWIC card
• Clean driving record

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Performs DOT pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Loads and unloads petroleum products adhering to various terminal procedures and company and governmental regulations.
• Operates tanker according to Company policies and state and federal laws
• Transports load over required route to proper destination observing all traffic laws and safety regulations
• Completes and maintains legible, accurate, paperwork in compliance with established company policies and transmits to appropriate person
• Maintains vehicle cleanliness and replaces gaskets, nozzles, and other related articles as needed
• Maintains miscellaneous service duties such as checking, on a daily basis, oil, water, fuel, tires, and tank related items
• Maintains communication with the office
• Reports any equipment malfunctions and/or concerns to the Transportation Manager and arrange for repairs where needed
• Works in a “SAFE” manner at all times and reports accidents immediately
• Gives customers prompt and courteous service
• Identifies proper underground storage tanks for delivery at all locations
• Has awareness of the various fuels used throughout the year
• In the event of an accident, completes proper reports with pictures
• Responds to Hazmat spills within scope of Hazmat Operative Level training
