Volunteer GIS Software Engineer (MVP – Yield Prediction) – Food Aid Project
We are seeking a volunteer GIS Software Engineer to help build an MVP for a yield prediction and agricultural intelligence system supporting global food security initiatives.
The goal is to develop early-stage geospatial tools that combine GIS, remote sensing, and agricultural data to estimate crop yields and identify production risk zones. This MVP will support better decision-making in sourcing, logistics, and food aid planning.
Responsibilities:
* Build and support GIS workflows for yield estimation and spatial analysis
* Integrate remote sensing, weather, soil, and historical yield datasets
* Help design and develop an MVP geospatial yield prediction model
* Develop data pipelines and visualization layers for actionable insights
* Collaborate with software engineers, analysts, and domain experts
Preferred experience:
* Experience with GIS platforms (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or similar)
* Strong Python skills for geospatial data processing
* Experience working with LLMs and AI tools (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.)
* Familiarity with remote sensing or agricultural datasets is a plus
* Interest in food systems, agriculture, predictive modeling, or humanitarian logistics
