Rate of Pay: $147,789.39 - $177,347.27

    Responsibilities: Dispense prescription and over the counter medication in a safe/effective manner that meets all Federal/State Law, Accreditation Standards, and Indian Health Service Standards of Pharmacy Practice.
    Provide direct patient care.
    Attempt to provide private medication consultation to all patients who receive dispensed medication. Consultation should include oral and written guidance.
    Use pharmacy and medical technology systems in a manner that promotes:

    o Fond du Lac computer use policies
    o Safe medication dispensing practices
    o Accurate clinical recordkeeping
    o Optimal health outcomes for Fond du Lac patients
    o Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) privacy
    o Tight pharmaceutical inventory control
    o Cost-effective purchasing of medications

    Promote the team approach to healthcare. Recognize the strengths/limitations that pharmacists provide when they engage in a healthcare team.
    Design and maintain pharmacy clinical program services to meet the needs of the Fond du Lac medical clinics, and other Human Services Division departments.
    Act as a pharmacy resource for patients, medical providers, and Fond du Lac Human Services administration.
    Manage clinical pharmacy services according to standards outlined in protocol and/or collaborative practice agreements.
    Actively review and update clinical care protocols to ensure that current guideline-based therapy is being used.
    Provide peer review for Fond du Lac pharmacists who are providing clinical patient care.
    Provide reports on clinical practice trends to the pharmacist in charge and other leadership.
    Provide Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) reporting and data that will serve to improve patient care and pharmacy services.
    Ensure that pharmacy technicians, interns, and students are providing service in accordance with licensure status and Federal/State pharmacy laws.
    Complete continuing education requirements to maintain Minnesota Pharmacist Licensure and certifications required to provide clinical pharmacy services.
    Order medications and pharmaceutical supplies in a manner that upholds current requirements outlined in MN State Law and the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA).
    Manage inventory according to Fond du Lac pharmacy policies and participate in year-end inventory processes.
    Act as an educational resource for health fairs and community outreach activities/events.
    Provide health promotion and disease prevention education.
    Provide active participation in topics addressed by Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee. This may include gathering/summarizing drug information, research, therapeutic guidelines, and drug utilization trends.
    Adhere to Fond du Lac Human Services Division Policies and Procedures.
    Provide supervision to staff in the department and other staff if located off-site. When necessary, this includes completing their annual appraisals, approving leave time, monitoring their work product, ensuring proper coverage of duties when they are on leave, training for their duties, and any disciplinary action necessary.
    Ensure that pharmacy services comply with State/Federal law, Accreditation Standards, and Indian Health Service Standards of Pharmacy Practice.
    Establish and update pharmacy policies and procedures to ensure the safe, legal, and effective management of pharmacy personnel and drug distribution systems.
    Ensure that a Pharmacist in Charge is designated for each pharmacy location with the Minnesota (MN) Board of Pharmacy.
    Act as the temporary Pharmacist in Charge for any Fond du Lac pharmacy location as needed.
    Manage wholesaler contracting (340B or Federal Supply) and ensure that daily operational procedures simplify cost-effective procurement of pharmaceutical products.
    Manage Pharmacy 340B policies and procedures, compliance, registration/recertification, audit responses and operations.
    Ensure all pharmacies are licensed with the MN Board of Pharmacy and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
    Coordinate all variables to ensure that third-party billing is operating in streamlined fashion.
    Provide leadership to pharmacy billing personnel to ensure that focused efforts are made to bill third-parties for all medications dispensed, all clinical services provided.
    Evaluate pharmacy technology needs, make recommendations for change, and implement system changes.
    Provide leadership to initiate and complete yearly Continuous Quality Improvement projects.
    Efficiently manage relationships with key business partners.
    Provide direct patient care.
    Coordinate pharmacy services with other Fond du Lac Human Services departments.
    Promote a team-based approach to health care.
    Promote a teaching/learning environment within Fond du Lac Pharmacies.
    Coordinate pharmacy services with “outside” medical providers and pharmacies.
    Submit pharmacy reports to the Reservation Business Committee.
    Maintain standards for pharmacy security to ensure the safeguarding of controlled substances and pharmaceutical products.
    Manage pharmacy budgets to ensure cost-effective use of Fond du Lac band resources.
    Review reports and provide communication regarding all accounting practices, including purchasing, billing, and accounts receivable.
    Compile and evaluate pharmacy statistical information as needed to evaluate patient care and pharmacy business practices.
    Collaborate with Clinical Lead Pharmacist to coordinate meetings and agendas for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
    Manage drug formulary in a cost-efficient manner.
    Conduct Drug Utilization Reviews.
    Lead pharmacy team meetings and initiatives.
    Serve as Pharmacy representative (or delegate appropriately) for interdepartmental projects/initiatives.
    Ensure that Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy standards are met.
    Ensure that trainings required by law and accreditation are completed by all staff.
    Manage strategic efforts to ensure that pharmacy staff to engage in community outreach events.
    Organize pharmacy training events to promote team development.
    Appropriate work attire is required.
    Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
    Ensure confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees, band members and/or clients.
    Display a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
    Recognize that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
    Represent the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
    Maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
    Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.

    Qualifications: No Driver’s License required.
    Registered Pharmacist with Minnesota License is required.
    Doctor of Pharmacy with 5 years of pharmacy experience required.
    One-year supervisory experience in clinic health care setting is required, Tribal clinic preferred.
    Pharmacy business management experience is preferred.
    Knowledge of computer applications to include Microsoft 365 software is required.
    Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
    Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
    Ability to follow complicated directions with precision and care is required.
    Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
    Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved is required.
    Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, beliefs and history is preferred.
    Knowledge of, and past working experience with Pharmacy Management Software (i.e. – ScriptPro, QS/I, Epic/Willow, McKesson, PDX) is preferred.
    Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
    Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
    Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
