What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Zookeeper Aide (Relief Keeper) position at Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary?
The Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary is seeking to hire part-time zookeeper aides (relief keepers). These positions are not to exceed 999 hours per fiscal year. Zookeeper aides will be required to have at least at least one weekend day of availability. Zookeeper aides work holidays, weekends, and occasional evening events. Pay range is $16.90 - $18.00 per hour.
Zookeeper aides fill relief shifts for full-time zookeepers on their assigned sections. Duties include most aspects of animal husbandry and enclosure maintenance such as raking, scrubbing, hosing, preparing diets, administering medications, creating and delivering enrichment, observing animal behavior, and recording notes. Zookeeper aides also assist with light maintenance on exhibits and will maintain areas around the exhibits and in service areas. This position requires the ability to work an eight-hour shift outdoors in all weather conditions. Zookeeper aides will perform physical tasks like bending, twisting, and lifting.
Working hours for zookeeper aides are generally 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the summer) with occasional evening shifts available for special events.
Only candidates with paid or extensive volunteer experience with exotic animals or native wildlife will be considered for this position. Paid experience with hoofstock or other large animal experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Experience with domestic animals and personal pets will not be considered.
