Summary:

The Supervisor, Outpatient Psychiatric Services is a leadership role responsible for ensuring high-quality, compliant, and trauma-informed outpatient psychiatric services. This position provides clinical and administrative supervision, oversees day-to-day program operations, supports staff development and performance, and ensures compliance with regulatory, payer, and organizational standards. The Supervisor may be required to maintain billable productivity in alignment with annually approved program budgets.

The Supervisor demonstrates strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills; a working knowledge of outpatient psychiatric operations and community systems; and initiative in implementing policies, procedures, and continuous quality improvement activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

A Supervisor in Outpatient should be prepared to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

• Clinical and Program Operations
  • Meet billable productivity expectations as defined by the approved program budget
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required documentation, including progress notes and treatment plans, in accordance with outpatient policies.
• Monitor psychiatry clients to ensure compliance with regulatory, licensure, and payer requirements.
• Review all treatment plans routed through the electronic health record and communicate required revisions to clinicians.
• Prepare the program for managed care, state, and third-party audits.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance
  • Conduct routine chart audits (at least one chart per clinician monthly) and complete randomized monthly customer satisfaction audits.
• Collect, track, and record key performance indicators (KPIs), including client census data, using organizational data systems.
• Develop, implement, and monitor corrective action plans for both program-level findings and individual performance concerns.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with organizational policies, state and federal regulations, and managed care requirements.
• Staff Supervision and Development
  • Provide regular supervision, coaching, and leadership support to outpatient staff.
• Conduct staff meetings and supervisory sessions.
• Onboard and orient new employees, ensuring clear understanding of job expectations, roles, accountability, and performance standards.
• Participate in hiring processes and complete employee performance evaluations and feedback.
• Leadership, Communication, and Collaboration
  • Coordinate staff assignments and workflows to ensure effective service delivery and completion of team responsibilities.
• Serve as a clinical and operational resource by responding to staff questions and resolving issues as they arise.
• Communicate organizational policies, procedures, and expectations clearly and consistently.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners and referral sources, including participation in outreach, marketing, and public relations activities.
• Model professional behavior, ethical practice, and pro-social values, including respect, integrity, empathy, accountability, and appropriate boundaries.
• Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and continuing education as established by the Division.
• Maintain an active, valid driver's license and promptly notify management of any changes in licensure status.
• Perform other duties as assigned by organizational leadership.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

• Graduate degree in a clinical field issued by an accredited educational institution that included a clinical practicum is required.
• Licensure is preferred and required in some areas; i.e. Licensed Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage & Family Mental Health Professional.
• Minimum of two years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and families.
• Specialized training or education in trauma-informed care, resiliency, and evidence-based treatment interventions

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an outpatient clinic or satellite location; client interactions may involve verbally or physically challenging behaviors.

Work Agreement Requirements

• A full day for a salaried position is a minimum of 7.5 hours per day. Start and end times for the employee may vary.
• Employees are expected to comply with all conditions and requirements of the Employee Handbook and any amendments thereto shall remain in effect.
