Upper School Science Teacher
Position Scope:
The Upper School Science Teacher teaches upper school science courses as assigned, with a primary focus on AP Biology, and supports curriculum development, laboratory instruction, student assessment, and school programs.
Essential Duties
- Teach AP Biology and other life science courses as assigned
- Develop and deliver lesson plans aligned with departmental and AP curriculum standards
- Design and supervise laboratory activities that reinforce course content and scientific inquiry
- Clearly communicate course expectations, assignments, and assessment criteria
- Assess student work and provide timely and meaningful feedback
- Differentiate instruction to support a range of learning needs
- Maintain a safe classroom and laboratory environment and follow all safety protocols
- Maintain accurate attendance and grading records
- Prepare report cards and written student comments
- Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic progress
- Participate in parent conferences as needed
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Science Department and Upper School
- Participate in school life through advising, extracurricular involvement, or other assigned duties
- Assist with field trips or off-campus learning experiences when applicable
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Education, or a related field required
- Advanced degree preferred
- Minimum of three years of high school biology teaching experience
- Experience teaching AP Biology strongly preferred
- Strong background in laboratory instruction and science safety practices
- Experience working with diverse learners and using differentiated instruction
- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
- Comfort using instructional technology in the classroom
- Interest in involvement beyond the classroom, including athletics, clubs, or other school programs, is preferred but not required.
