Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Base Counselor to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will provide support to students in their academic, social, and emotional development. This role involves working closely with students, parents, and faculty to create a safe and nurturing environment conducive to learning. The School Counselor will utilize various therapeutic techniques and interventions to address the diverse needs of students.
Duties
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to support students' mental health and emotional well-being.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to assist students in distress.
- Provide addiction counseling and support for students facing substance use challenges.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and workshops focused on social skills, conflict resolution, and behavioral management.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations to assess student needs and develop appropriate intervention plans.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, including patient assessments and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Engage in case management activities to ensure students receive necessary resources and support services.
- Utilize cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to help students cope with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.
- Provide guidance on academic planning, career exploration, and personal development.
- Collect data on student progress and outcomes to inform counseling practices.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor or equivalent credentials.
- LSW, LPC, LISW, LPCC
- Experience working with children in an educational or clinical setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of behavioral health principles, crisis management techniques, and therapeutic modalities such as motivational interviewing and psychotherapy.
- Familiarity with applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Knowledge of special education laws and practices related to working with individuals with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders.
