The Program Manager – Interns position exists to manage the overall strategic direction of the intern program as well as manage an intern staff of over 30 local active interns annually. Works to ensure that the intern program stays in alignment with the direction and needs of Focus on the Family.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Focus; adheres to the Standard of Moral Conduct and Statement of Faith; upholds Focus on the Family's ministry in prayer
Prays personally for Focus on the Family’s staff and constituents and may occasionally lead in a public prayer
Engages in Christian ministry
Demonstrates behaviors aligned with FOF core values
This role is considered a Spokesperson for Focus on the Family and should represent Focus’ position and tone at all times

The Program Manager – Interns position exists to manage the overall strategic direction of the intern program as well as manage an intern staff of over 30 local active interns annually. Works to ensure that the intern program stays in alignment with the direction and needs of Focus on the Family.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Continually reviews, updates, and monitors the direction of the intern program to ensure that it is aligned with and supports Focus on the Family’s mission and strategic objectives
- Educates self and managers on DOL laws and guidelines around interning. Conducts periodic audits of assignments to ensure the line between employment and interning is clear and well defined
- Provides coaching, training, and performance feedback to interns, including participating in discipline and termination with HR leadership if/when necessary
- Coaches managers in the appropriate way to manage, reward, and recognize interns
- Makes updates and proposes larger-scale program changes to senior HR management to keep program current and vital
- Recruits host homes to house interns for their internship
- Manages and edits content on the Focus on the Family Internships website page
- Develops and maintains effective communication and positive relationships with program interns and ministry partners
- Develops and manages new communications initiatives to keep interns informed of ministry information
- Evaluates effectiveness of current and other vehicles of communication.
- Actively recruits interns to meet general and specific needs within the ministry, including managing the end-to-end application process, interviews, reference, and background checks
- Coordinates intern recruitment and outreach.
- Works with department managers to find creative ways to meet departmental and ministry support needs through the intern program
- Provides leadership in the development and execution of intern orientation
- Trains interns on general and specific job duties as related to their assignment
- Ensures that interns are orientated to Focus on the Family’s philosophy, core values, pillars, and Focus 5
- Works to ensure that processes and technologies are working effectively and efficiently
- Participates on the project team for any process and/or technical research, upgrades, or changes and makes recommendations of such to senior HR management
- Represents Focus on the Family to community
- May also recruit for regular/paid positions
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Manages the program and assists in the supervision of interns
- Ability to travel to 1-4 out of state College Career Fairs annually
- This role may require occasional travel including nights and weekends
- Must be able to pass a Post Offer Prehire Physical exam
- Office environment
- Must be able to participate in activities scheduled for the interns (i.e.- white water rafting, hiking, volleyball, etc.…)
- Ability to work 7-8 weekends during the summer

- Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts field and/or commensurate experience
- 3-5 years of broad experience dealing with the public in a service-related industry
- Working knowledge of FOF mission, philosophy, values, and objectives
- Solid understanding of interning, staffing, program management, change management or related discipline
- Experience leading spiritually through Bible study teaching and discipleship
- Well-developed social skills
- Ability to work independently and use sound judgment on when and what to refer to supervisor
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from all walks of life
- Creative thinking to see solutions outside the box
- Ability to think strategically to anticipate ways to meet ministry needs
- Ability to produce appealing and persuasive presentations
- Ability to develop and articulate strategic program goals and or changes
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficient in PC use and Microsoft programs
- Monitors and reviews all aspects of the intern program to make sure that all resources. human, technical and financial, are being utilized in the most effective and efficient way
- Manages a budget of over $100,000 for the intern program
