About the Role
Focus Behavioral Health is hiring Behavioral Support Specialists (BSS) to support adults with autism and/or intellectual disabilities in their homes and communities. You’ll work with individuals and teams to improve independence, develop positive behavioral strategies, and foster meaningful community involvement.
This is a flexible position that allows for professional independence, but you’re never on your own. Supervisors are available to support you-especially when writing or updating plans.
What Makes This Role Different
Behavior plans are an important part of the role, but they are not the only focus. BSPs are typically updated quarterly or as needed, depending on the individual. When updates are required, supervisors are available to provide guidance and support throughout the process.
- You’re not alone – Supervisors are available to support you with strategies, documentation, or challenges when needed.
- Flexible scheduling – Build your caseload around your availability, with both part-time and full-time options available.
- No unnecessary physical requirements – This role does NOT require lifting 75 lbs. Occasional mobility support may be needed, but heavy lifting is not part of the job.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs)
- Develop new and update Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Crisis Intervention Plans (CIPs) as needed (typically quarterly or based on progress).
- Provide training and consultation to caregivers and support staff
- Attend ISP meetings and team discussions as needed
- Monitor progress and document behavioral outcomes
- Be available for on-call crisis support, per waiver requirements
Note: On-call availability is required under the Adult Autism Waiver. While true crisis events are rare, BSSs must be accessible in the event of an emergency.
Pay Details
- IDD Program: Typically $25/hour
- AAW Program: $22–$35/hour depending on experience and eligibility
Pay is discussed in more detail during the interview process to ensure clarity and alignment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Counseling, OT, Speech, Behavioral Analysis, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with autism and/or intellectual disabilities (required for all education levels per waiver guidelines)
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to pass background checks
