Summary
The Peer Recovery Specialist reflects a collaborative and strengths-based approach, with the primary goal being to assist individuals in achieving sustained recovery from addiction and/or mental health issues. The PRSS serves in a supportive role within a treatment setting to enhance the services. The PRSS is trained and certified in the domains of Advocacy, Mentoring/Education, Recovery/Wellness Support, and Ethical Responsibilities to better support clients in achieving recovery and resiliency. The services provided become a permanent critical component of the continuum of care services that substantially improve the client's ability to sustain recovery/wellness. The shift is currently scheduled Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm but must be available some evenings and weekends to participate in outreach events.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges.
- Conduct motivational interviewing to facilitate client engagement and goal setting.
- Develop individualized recovery plans in collaboration with clients and their families.
- Utilize crisis management techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of clients.
- Mentor clients through their recovery journey, offering guidance and encouragement.
- Document client progress and maintain accurate records in compliance with agency policies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and resources for clients.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Formal Education, Certification/Licensure, & Other Requirements
1. Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have current certification as a Peer Recovery Coach in the State of West Virginia by the Certification Board for Addiction and Prevention Professionals.
3. Minimum two (2) years demonstrated personal recovery experience.
4. Preferred experience with substance use disorders, homelessness, mental illness, and domestic violence.
5. Valid WV Driver’s License in good standing.
6. Must be able to pass all required background checks.
Physical Requirements
1. Frequent communications, verbal and written.
2. Frequent standing and/or sitting.
3. Visually or otherwise be able to identify, observe and assess clients.
