Crisis Specialist

FMRS has a PRN Crisis Specialist position located in Beckley, WV to provide services for adults with behavioral health and/or substance abuse crisis at our Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). Provides services designed to stabilize the conditions of acute or severe psychiatric signs and symptoms to behavioral health consumers and to provide detoxification services. This role serves as part of an integrated, self-contained clinical team, assuming responsibility for directly providing needed treatment, rehabilitation and support services. Our CSU is a safe, secure environment that's less restrictive than a hospital. This service is intended for persons whose condition can be stabilized with short-term intensive services. The average length of stay is 5-7 days for psychiatric symptoms and 6 days for detoxification admissions. The goal of our Crisis Stabilization Program is to stabilize the crisis situation as quickly as possible while maintaining an informal, comfortable, home-like environment with qualified professional staff and prevent unnecessary inpatient hospitalizations.

This shift on as as needed basis. The shifts are generally 7am to 3pm or Noon to 10pm.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention services to individuals experiencing mental health crises.
• Conduct patient assessments to determine appropriate care and treatment plans.
• Utilize behavioral therapy techniques to assist patients in crisis management.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Utilize skills such as motivational interviewing to support patient care effectively.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral health related field.
• Experience with behavioral health/substance abuse consumers preferred
• Possess a valid WV driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
• Applicant must be able to clear all background checks

Physical Requirements

1. Frequent communications, verbal and written.

2. Frequent standing and/or sitting.

3. Visually or otherwise identify, observe and assess consumers.

4. Ability to perform verbal and nonviolent physical crisis intervention techniques.
