The Surgical Technologist 2 prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures. Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures. Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment. May be required to transport patient to and from the operating room. Relies on education, some experience and judgment to accomplish job. Works under general supervision. Creativity and some latitude is expected to complete responsibilities.

Responsibilities
- TECHNICAL TASKS
- Evaluates and obtains proper equipment and supplies for procedure/patient need: a.inspects/uses electrosurgical active electrodes appropriately b.identifies instruments/instrument sets c.sets up back table correctly/passes instruments for procedure d.understands surgical procedure/appropriate instruments for procedure.
- Inspects OR for cleanliness, completeness and proper arrangement of furniture and equipment.
- Accountability for competence in creating and maintaining a sterile field
- Assumes personal responsibility for completing and maintaining competencies
- Documents care provided utilizing approved documentation system. (Signs count sheet)
- CRITICAL THINKING
- Ability to function in emergency cases by locating trauma, emergency or specialty case supplies, equipment and instrument carts
- Understands, obtains, and uses case carts, procedure cards in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assists in preparing perioperative site and always assures that the patient's privacy, safety and comfort has been maintained.
- Competently performs the duties of a Circulating Surgical Technologist under direct supervision of RN
- Monitors and controls aspects of the environment and performs actions that demonstrate accountability
- Develops activity priorities appropriately
- INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS
- Demonstrates teaching ability and willingness to work with employees/students through the preceptorship role in the specialty/sub specialty they work in.
- Cooperative with healthcare team in planning, implementing and supporting decisions.
- Maintains and promotes a communicative, respectful relationship and attitude among healthcare team.
- Ensures confidence of privileged information and exhibits concern for the dignity and welfare of the patient.
