This role requires a versatile individual capable of handling an array of responsibilities that touch on Program Management, Process Engineering and Textile Engineering skill sets.
Job Responsibilities
- Support strategic R&D projects including responsibility for program management (i.e. schedule and budget), and engineering (i.e. design and manufacturing) aspects
- Work closely with our customers to understand their technical requirements and drivers
- Support start-up and troubleshooting of our custom, 3D weaving looms
- Become a strong “on-the-floor” presence in order to be the liaison between our Textile Designers and our weaving loom operators
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills to document efforts, procedures and technical results and to communicate results effectively to customers in a team based, iterative R&D environment
- Help us achieve meaningful increases in the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) of our 3D woven preforms:
- Learn to run and troubleshoot custom, 3D weaving looms
- Conceive and help implement improved 3D weaving loom functionality
- Develop standardized processes that can be passed on to operators and technicians
- BS degree in Textile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
- 5-10 years professional experience in a hands-on, technical role in the Textiles or Composites field
- Strong general mechanical knowledge and machine trouble-shooting skills
- An interest and enthusiasm to work in a project based, contract R&D environment
- A team player with proven track record of working closely with peers, managers and customers
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and specifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- 5-10 years experience specifically in the field of 3D woven composites
- Previous experience designing 3D woven preforms
- Previous experience running and troubleshooting Jacquard weaving looms
- Familiarity with basic composite principles and best practices
- Previous experience with custom machinery using PLC’s and servo motors
- Familiarity with IS9001 and AS9100 quality systems
