Job Summary:

The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for performing inspections of aerospace components to verify compliance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, specifications, and applicable quality standards. This position performs receiving, in-process, and final inspections using a variety of precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of mechanical inspection practices, blueprint reading, dimensional tolerances, and precision measurement equipment.

Job Responsibilities: 

• Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections of machined and manufactured aerospace components. 
• Inspect parts and assemblies for dimensional accuracy, workmanship, and conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. 
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, work instructions, and inspection requirements. 
• Understand and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles during inspection. 
• Use precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, bore gauges, pin gauges, thread gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools. 
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, hole locations, surface conditions, and other required characteristics. 
• Document inspection results accurately and maintain required quality records and inspection documentation. 
• Review manufacturing documentation, travelers, and related records to ensure required operations and inspections have been completed. 
• Identify and document nonconforming material or product in accordance with established quality procedures. 
• Clearly communicate inspection findings and quality concerns to Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and other appropriate personnel. 
• Maintain inspection tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition. 
• Handle precision measuring equipment appropriately and ensure equipment used for inspection is within its required calibration period. 
• Follow established quality procedures, work instructions, customer requirements, and company policies. 
• Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities and related documentation as required. 
• Assist with investigations and verification activities related to nonconforming product when requested. 
• Work collaboratively with machinists, leads, supervisors, engineers, and other Quality personnel to resolve inspection and manufacturing concerns. 
• Maintain traceability and proper handling of parts and inspection records throughout the inspection process. 
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality and inspection processes. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints. 
• Working knowledge of dimensional tolerances and GD&T. 
• Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, pin gauges, thread gauges, and indicators. 
• Ability to perform accurate dimensional inspections and properly document inspection results. 
• Experience inspecting aerospace components or other high-precision manufactured parts. 
• Familiarity with AS9100 quality requirements. 
• Experience with First Article Inspection requirements and documentation. 
• Experience working with CNC-machined components. 
• Familiarity with surface finish requirements and common inspection methods. 
• Experience using optical or other advanced inspection equipment is a plus. 
• Basic understanding of machining and manufacturing processes. 
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. 
• Ability to identify discrepancies and clearly communicate inspection findings. 
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn company quality and manufacturing systems. 
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams. 
• Strong organizational and documentation skills. 
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines. 
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends, if necessary. 
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle materials up to 50 pounds. 
• This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.? ? 

Educational Qualification and Experience:  

• High school diploma or GED required. 
• Minimum 3 years mechanical inspection experience in a manufacturing environment preferred; aerospace or precision machining experience is highly desirable.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
