Position Summary
FMGI is seeking an experienced and driven Director of Construction to lead and oversee multiple commercial construction projects, operational teams, and client relationships throughout the Southeast region. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining FMGI’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
The Director of Construction will work closely with executive leadership, project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to support company growth, operational performance, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee multiple commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Manage and mentor Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel
- Ensure projects maintain budget, schedule, safety, and quality standards
- Collaborate with estimating and preconstruction teams during project planning and bidding
- Maintain strong client relationships and serve as a primary point of contact for project execution
- Support business development efforts and help identify growth opportunities
- Monitor staffing needs, project workloads, and resource allocation
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and quality control procedures
- Review contracts, schedules, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and project reporting
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal departments to maintain efficient operations
- Conduct regular project site visits and leadership meetings
- Drive operational improvements, accountability, and continuous process development
- Foster FMGI’s culture of teamwork, professionalism, and customer service
Qualifications
- 10 years of commercial construction management experience
- 5 years in a leadership or multi-project oversight role preferred
- Experience managing commercial remodels, expansions, ground-up, or redevelopment projects
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, estimating, and construction operations
- Proven leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of construction safety standards and OSHA compliance
- Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Willingness to travel as required
Preferred Experience
- Experience in retail, grocery, hospitality, big-box, or commercial renovation projects
- Existing relationships with subcontractors and clients throughout the Southeast
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required
