What are the responsibilities and job description for the AZ Shipping Clerk I position at FM Industries?
Location: 2635 E. Magnolia Street, Phoenix, AZ
Hours: 9am to 5:30pm, M-F. OT on Saturdays occasionally needed.
DESCRIPTION:
The Shipping Clerk I is responsible for processing shipments of materials, supplies, and products. Perform basic administrative, clerical, operational and computational tasks. Decisions are limited to defined parameters around work expectations, quality standards, priorities, and timing. Work under close supervision and/or within established policies/practices and guidelines with minimal opportunity for deviation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Gathers, verifies, and packs items for shipment according to specifications and established procedures.
- Ensures each order receives the correct paperwork, packing and shipping labels.
- Accurately packages boxes requiring special handling according to specific process and policy requirements.
- Understand packaging specs and able to perform packaging processes for customer shipments.
- Assemble, line and pad cartons, crates, and containers, using hand tools.
- Seal containers or materials, using glues, fasteners, nails, and hand tools.
- Correctly sorts packages for specific ship type to correct locations.
- Creates packing slips and arranges shipments to domestic customers using FedEx and UPS software systems.
- Stage packages waiting for carrier pickup in specified areas.
- Assist in loading outgoing shipments to assigned carriers using material handling equipment.
- Maintain department records
- Cleans warehouse and packaging areas to ensure safe working conditions per 6s protocol.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
- Forklift certified required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma, GED equivalent.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of ERP software preferred (Epicor preferred).
- Must be reliable and have excellent attendance.
- 0-2 years of experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB:
- Standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, or bending to the floor.
- Lifting and/or moving items up to 40 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB:
- Regularly exposed to moving equipment.
- Indoor/Outdoor work environment
- The employee will be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials commonly used in a manufacturing environment (i.e., safety glasses and shoes, gloves, ear plugs/covers, mask, cleanroom suit).
