Our client are a leading Facilities Management company in the market for a skilled Engineering Operations Manager in New York City, NY
The Engineering Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all building systems and facility services at a global technology and research driven investment firm with a significant Manhattan presence. This role combines the responsibilities of a Chief Engineer and Facilities Manager, providing both hands-on technical leadership and strategic oversight of facility operations, maintenance programs, and site services.
The position serves as the senior engineering authority on-site, ensuring critical infrastructure uptime while leading facility staff, managing vendors, and partnering closely with site leadership to support business continuity, safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Serve as the site authority for all building systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, UPS, generators, chillers, boilers, compressed air, process utilities, fire/life safety systems, and building automation systems.
- Ensure maximum reliability and uptime of critical infrastructure supporting manufacturing and R&D operations.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for system failures or performance issues.
- Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs aligned with best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Review, approve, and oversee engineering work plans, shutdowns, and system modifications.
- Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and commissioning activities.
Facilities Management & Operations
- Oversee daily facility operations, including maintenance, janitorial, landscaping, waste management, and other site services.
- Manage operating and capital budgets; track expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising reliability or safety.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and applicable building codes.
- Act as the primary point of contact for facility-related client requests, escalations, and performance reporting.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), emergency response plans, and business continuity protocols.
Team Leadership & Vendor Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technicians; establish clear performance expectations and training plans.
- Coordinate and manage external service providers and contractors, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and performance standards.
- Promote a strong safety culture, conducting regular safety meetings, audits, and risk assessments.
Strategic & Client Partnership
- Partner with site leadership and stakeholders to align facility operations with business needs and long-term objectives.
- Prepare and deliver operational reports, KPIs, and executive-level updates.
- Support audits, inspections, and customer visits as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in facilities or engineering operations, preferably in a critical environment (semiconductor, life sciences, data center, or advanced manufacturing).
- Demonstrated experience managing complex building systems and leading technical teams.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, building codes, and compliance standards.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, vendors, and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
