Position Summary
The HMDA Specialist is responsible for the collection, validation, monitoring, reporting, and submission of Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) data for the Bank's residential mortgage lending activities. This position serves as a subject matter expert on HMDA requirements and works closely with Mortgage Operations, Compliance, Loan Operations, Internal Audit, and Lending staff to ensure accurate and timely regulatory reporting. The HMDA Specialist supports the Bank's commitment to regulatory compliance, fair lending practices, and data integrity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
HMDA Data Management
- Review residential mortgage loan applications and originated loans for HMDA reportability.
- Collect, maintain, and validate HMDA Loan Application Register (LAR) data.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of HMDA demographic, action taken, loan purpose, occupancy, and property information.
- Perform ongoing quality control reviews and data scrubs of HMDA-reportable loans.
- Monitor exception reports and resolve data discrepancies with lending and operations staff.
- Maintain detailed documentation supporting HMDA data decisions and corrections.
Regulatory Reporting
- Work in conjunction with the SVP of Loan Ops to scrub and review prior to final submission the annual HMDA Loan Application Register through the CFPB HMDA platform within required deadlines.
- Conduct pre-submission data integrity reviews and edit checks.
- Assist with data collection as requested for exams, audits, and compliance reviews related to HMDA and fair lending requirements.
Compliance and Fair Lending Support
- Stay current on HMDA, Regulation C, Fair Lending, CRA, and related regulatory requirements.
- Provide recommendations for process improvements to strengthen compliance and data quality controls.
Training and Support
- Serve as a resource for lenders, processors, underwriters, and operations personnel regarding HMDA reporting requirements.
- Assist with implementation and testing of system updates that impact HMDA data collection and reporting.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 1-2 years of loan operations/processing, loan compliance, or related banking experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of HMDA, Fair Lending, CRA, ECOA, RESPA, TILA, and related consumer compliance regulations.
- Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet regulatory deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
- Willingness to complete continuing education courses
