Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and versatile Multimedia Journalist to join our newsroom for coverage of stories in the Ithaca and Watkins Glen region. The ideal candidate is a storyteller at heart, someone who can gather, write, and present compelling news content across multiple platforms, including radio, web, and social media. This role also involves covering breaking news, community events, public meetings, and human-interest stories.
Responsibilities
- Research, report, write, and produce original news content from the Watkins Glen and Ithaca areas for radio newscasts, our website, Finger Lakes Daily News, and social media channels.
- Conduct interviews in person, by phone, or via virtual platforms.
- Cover breaking news, local government, community events, and feature stories.
- Capture and edit photos, audio, and short-form video for digital use.
- Build and maintain relationships with community contacts and sources.
- Post timely, accurate updates to the web and social media.
- Work collaboratively with other reporters and on-air staff.
- Represent FLX Local Media at community events when required.
Qualifications
- Strong writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences.
- Proficiency with audio editing software; basic photo/video editing skills a plus.
- Ability to work under deadline pressure and manage multiple assignments.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Previous experience in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field preferred; recent graduates with strong skills encouraged to apply.
