JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for overseeing all operations of the Transit Garage to insure timely maintenance and repair of all city buses and Transit Department vehicles, supervising skilled and semi-skilled workers in shop operations, and establishing shop procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance procedures including diagnostic techniques.
- Proficiency in computer software programs: Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive. Munis helpful.
- Knowledge of inventory control and record keeping procedures.
- Skill in supervising skilled and semi-skilled employees.
- Skill in operating mechanics tools/equipment such as air tools, hand tools, torque tools, motor analyze, etc.
- Skill in operating the vehicles and equipment involved in repairs.
- Ability to oversee operations and supervise personnel.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions because of degree of responsibility required.
- Ability to read, understand and follow manual instructions to solve complex mechanical problems.
- Writing and oral communication skills sufficient to prepare and maintain reports.
- Ability to discuss equipment malfunction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Degree or equivalent followed by vocational or technical training in automotive repair or fleet operations and maintenance complemented by 8 years’ experience in automotive and/or fleet. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job, are acceptable as meeting the requirements for this position. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification helpful but not required.
- 2-3 years progressive supervisory experience.
- Ability and willingness to attend training on new and/or improved equipment.
- Must have and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (Class B with passenger endorsement) or obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Must already possess or obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
- Will be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
