Flowtec Construction is partnering with one of Chicagoland’s fastest-growing General Contractors to appoint a Controller who will be developed into the company’s next CFO.
Established 75 years ago and now operating under its third generation of leadership, the business recently completed a record-breaking year at $100 million in revenue and is tracking toward $150 million in 2026. Its growth is supported by a strong repeat-client portfolio that includes globally recognizable brands.
The Opportunity
With the current CFO preparing for retirement, this is a planned succession hire offering a clear and realistic route into the CFO position.
You will initially lead the Project Accounting and corporate Accounting teams while working closely with the current CFO, CEO and operational leadership. As you develop a full understanding of the business, you will transition into the CFO role and have the opportunity to hire a new Controller underneath you.
This position extends well beyond managing the accounting function. The CEO is looking for a genuine financial partner who can help shape strategy, evaluate opportunities and guide the company through its next stage of growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Project Accounting and corporate Accounting teams
- Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management
- Manage job-cost reporting, WIP schedules and project financial performance
- Provide the CEO and leadership team with clear financial analysis and actionable insights
- Partner with operational leaders to strengthen margins, manage risk and improve project performance
- Evaluate systems, processes and internal controls as the company continues to scale
- Support long-term planning, investment decisions and company-wide growth initiatives
- Work alongside the current CFO throughout the succession period before transitioning into the CFO position
Ideal Background
- Leadership experience within construction accounting or another project-based, job-cost environment
- Strong understanding of WIP reporting, job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Experience overseeing and developing an accounting team
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on
- Commercial mindset with the confidence to challenge, advise and partner with senior leadership
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate financial information into clear business recommendations
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred
- CPA or relevant professional qualification is advantageous but not essential
