Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our procurement team. The Procurement position would involve communicating with suppliers regarding purchasing goods across tooling, materials, processing, and packaging categories. Provide backup and assistance as priorities shift across purchasing functions. The ideal candidate would be organized, professional, possess excellent communication skills, have strategic thinking regarding inventory, possess a collaborative/positive attitude, and be reliable.
Responsibilities
Core duties & responsibilities include:
· Purchase machine tooling, including cutting tools, inserts, holders, fixtures, and related consumables.
· Support tooling trials, replacements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Evaluate tooling performance with attention to tool life, cost-per-part, and production impact.
· Work closely with the Machining Supervisor to identify tooling requirements for production and new jobs.
· Track the status of requests, contracts, and orders.
· Ensure that goods are bought as economically and time efficiently as possible.
· Communicate with other departments as necessary to meet demands.
· Coordinate deliveries with Shipping, Receiving, and Assembly.
· Share pertinent information as needed.
· Manage and maintain positive relationships.
· Request and evaluate quotes: negotiating pricing, lead times, and terms.
· Issue requests for quotes to potential suppliers and follow up on those RFQs, order statuses, and other items.
· Prepare Purchase orders and send copies to the supplies and departments originating requests.
· Calculate costs of orders and charge or forward to appropriate accounts.
· Contact suppliers to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems.
· Respond to supplier inquiries about order status, changes, or cancellations.
· Follow up with Vendors before parts are due.
· Updates purchase orders with any changes.
· Email / call Suppliers and consistently notify the Flotron Team with pertinent updates, order statuses, shipments, PO tracking, and deliveries.
· Prepare documentation for contracts, transactions, or regulatory compliance.
· Communicate with other departments when necessary.
· Schedule maintenance for equipment and the company vehicle.
· Discuss account status or activity with suppliers and/or other departments.
· Work collaboratively with other purchasers who each have defined areas of focus.
· Coordinate purchasing activity to align with overall production and business priorities.
· Inventory: Build a stock of commonly used materials and repeat-use components, and optimize order quantities for pricing, lead times, and future demands.
·Balance job-specific controls such as reorder points, min/max, levels, and usage trends.
Qualifications
Education:
· High School Diploma/GED required for the position. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience.
Experience:
Required experience:
- 3 years of purchasing or buyer experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience purchasing machine tooling for machining or CNC operations.
- Experience sourcing raw materials, purchased parts, and/or outside processing.
- ERP system experience; Epicor strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills
Preferred experience:
- Experience in precision machining or engineered-to-order manufacturing
- Inventory optimization or demand‑driven purchasing experience
- Exposure to quality systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100
Skills and Abilities:
· Strong written and solid verbal communication skills.
· Ability to carry out tasks efficiently and independently, even without constant on-site supervision.
· Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and data entry.
· Apply practical and logical reasoning to complete duties successfully.
· Capacity to understand, retain, and execute verbal and written directions and information.
· Open-minded team player who is open to critique and motivated to grow within the job role.
· Ability to concentrate on a task over a period without being distracted.
· Self-driven and eager to take the lead in initiating tasks.
· Understand how to interpret blueprints or Engineer Drawings for verification of specifications called out on Traveler / Router.
Working Conditions:
· Work is performed at a desk in a temperature-controlled Procurement office.
· Occasional trips to the Production floor require approved safety glasses and safety toe footwear.
· Pressure to meet deadlines is a critical part of the job.
