Responsibilities
The Paralegal is responsible for assisting the General Counsel & Chief Ethics Officer (General Counsel) and attorneys in the General Counsel's Office with duties and matters in providing in-house legal services to the State Board of Administration (SBA). This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel - Operations.
70% - Serves as paralegal in the General Counsel's Office (OGC) and performs paralegal and administrative responsibilities related to securities or other shareholder litigation (securities litigation)
- Assists attorneys in OGC by performing various paralegal and administrative tasks relating to securities litigation including researching, drafting, revising, finalizing, proofing, document reproduction and composing correspondence
- Corresponds with external parties
- Scans and inputs data into the SBA workshare application and assist with maintaining tracking
- Schedules meetings and conference calls, when needed
10% - Performs various paralegal and administrative duties for class action litigation, as needed
- Serves as (directly or as backup) an SBA contact to the SBA's custodian banks for the filing of claims in securities class action litigation
- Monitors all securities class action litigation claims and coordinates with other SBA staff on class action filings and the SBA's loss calculations
- Assists with preparing and maintaining status and recovery reports on class actions
10% - Conducts research and special projects
- Completes various legal and other research projects and assists attorneys with legal research, as requested
5% - Serves as back-up on agency rule administrative matters and for SBA Agency Clerk duties, as needed
- Reviews and assists with preparation of Final Orders for DC Plan
- Makes filings with the Florida Administrative Register
- Maintains rulemaking files
- Maintains agency rules spreadsheet
05% - Performs other duties as assigned
Responsibilities
Eight years of related experience. A postsecondary degree may be used as an alternative for years of direct experience; 2 years for an associate’s degree, 4 years for a bachelor’s degree, 6 years for a master’s degree, 7 years for a professional degree, or 9 years for a doctoral degree.
Preferences:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in legal services or a related field
- Paralegal certification or registration

Hiring Range: $74,445 - $93,450
