What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor of Education position at Florida Southern College?
The School of Education at Florida Southern College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with experience in teacher education at the undergraduate and/or graduate level effective January 6, 2026.
Candidates must have earned a doctorate degree in education and have completed at least five years of successful teaching at the P-12 school level or teaching/administrating in an educational setting.
Candidates must have specialized knowledge in education, a promising research agenda, and dedication to professional service.
The successful candidate will possess proven skills in implementing engaged learning, the use of instructional technology, and student advising. In addition, they should be college-wide citizens skilled in effective committee work and other activities supportive of the college at large.
Much of our academic administration is performed by our faculty. They chair, or serve, on committees and they generate advice for the improvement of our over-all academic program. They often lead important college-wide functions such as faculty development programs, internships, international study and service learning. Candidates should be excited about sharing these responsibilities. Finally, it is important that faculty members be willing to consider leadership positions by serving as department chairs or division heads at some future time in their career.
The faculty member will be expected to:
· Teach subject areas including, but not limited to, undergraduate and graduate education courses
· Advise prospective and active students
· Serve on dissertation committees
· Perform departmental and institutional service
· Demonstrate scholarly activity in accordance with the rank of the position
· Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Education
Qualifications:
· An earned doctorate from an accredited institution
· Demonstrated record of P-12 teaching in U.S. public schools or teaching/administrating in an educational setting (five-year minimum).
· Highly collaborative and dedicated to school-university partnerships.
· Demonstrated record of publishing and presenting research
· Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Preferred:
· Holds a current Florida P-12 teaching certificate or qualified to obtain one
· Hold both ESOL and Reading Endorsements
· Proof of Clinical Educator training
