What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Student Involvement position at Florida Southern College?
The Assistant Director of Student Involvement, Fraternity and Sorority Life & Leadership Development is a key role within the Department of Student Life, responsible for developing and enhancing student engagement through oversight of Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils, promoting student learning, community engagement, risk management, policy compliance, and values-based decision-making unique to Fraternity-Sorority Life. Further, this position is responsible for continual coordination and reporting of evidence-based student leadership and civic engagement development opportunities across Greek, other registered student organizations, and Student Life programs, ensuring that our initiatives effectively support and impact student success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Leadership Program Development: Design, develop, and oversee leadership programs that enhance student abilities and foster leadership skills across the campus. Serve as the lead for the involvement incentive program, Passport.
2. Fraternity-Sorority Organizations Support: Provide development and ongoing training to FSL student organizations to ensure vibrant community engagement and alignment with institutional goals.
3. Training & Development: Create and facilitate training for students, faculty, and staff on the use of the Engage platform.
4. Communication Oversight: Lead the communication efforts for Fraternity-Sorority Life and leadership programs within the Student Life Department, including oversight of social media platforms, Engage use, and other communication channels to promote student involvement and program visibility. Serve as a campus liaison for the social engagement platform Engage by Anthology.
5. Strategic Planning: Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Student Engagement and Student Engagement team to strategize and implement initiatives that enhance student engagement and leadership development. Collect and compile data to create reports for Student Engagement and Student Life. Contribute to reports, as requested, for the Board of Trustees.
6. Event Management: Coordinate and oversee major Fraternity-Sorority Life and leadership development events, ensuring they align with the goals of the Student Life Department and enhance the student experience on campus. Work closely with the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils to plan and facilitate annual recruitment. Serve on the Student Engagement event rotation team.
7. Contribute to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs or related field preferred.
2. At least 2 years of full-time professional experience in a college, university, or similar setting, preferably in Student Activities or related area.
3. Exceptional organizational, management, leadership, computer, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
4. Strong fiscal management skills necessary.
5. Experience with event planning and implementation required.
