Basic Scope/Purpose:

The Field Inspector is responsible for mosquito control and surveillance activities to aid the district’s larvicide and adulticide programs. Such work shall be conducted in accordance with all applicable Federal, State and

Local laws, and in accordance with District policy as established by the Board of Commissioners and administered by the Executive Director. The Field Inspector assesses larval and adult mosquito populations throughout an assigned area, establishes a monthly route and works from that route to include and survey all residences in the assigned area, makes control decisions in the field deciding the appropriate control method(s), applies the control method(s) in accordance with the applicable laws and District policy, collects and identifies mosquito species in the field, records all daily activity in the handheld computer, uploads data into FieldSeeker, and reports mosquito problems to Supervisor as needed in a timely manner.

Reporting Responsibilities:

The Field Inspector reports to the Lower Keys Supervisor.

Working Conditions:

The Field Inspector will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, noise, vibration, close proximity to moving parts, working in high places, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors and oils. The Field
Inspector may be required to wear a respirator, eye protection and/or hearing protection, and will be required to travel by vehicle, boat, or aircraft as part of assigned duties. This position requires that the incumbent at times will be expected to perform heavy labor (exerting up to 50 lbs. of force to carry, lift, push or otherwise move objects).

Essential Functions (Without Accommodations):

1. Complete domestic inspections throughout assigned area. This is to include residences and commercial businesses, field sites on an established regular route;

2. Complete special requests by inspecting property in question and surrounding areas to locate source of breeding;

3. Survey water-holding plants, such as bromeliads, to determine breeding potential;
4. Prepare and keep records of daily time, domestic inspections and larviciding activity;

5. Responsible for on-truck inventory of chemicals, computer components, safety and first aid equipment and cleanliness of vehicle;

6. Complete a monthly vehicle maintenance, inspection, cleaning and washing;
7. Work outside in all types of weather conditions, (e.g. Heat, Cold, Rain, Wind, etc…);
8. Dispense mosquito abatement materials in accordance with District policy, Local, State, and Federal law;

Knowledge:
Knowledge of mosquito biology, control practices, and insecticides.

Abilities & Skills:

Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other district employees and must be able to interact with the general public in a professional and courteous manner.

Education, Training, & Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent;
Must be licensed in “Public Health Pest Control” from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, or able to obtain within one (1) year from date of hire;
Valid Florida Driver’s License;
1 Year Probation from date of hire.
