What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front Office Coordinator position at Florida International Joint Institute?
About Us
Florida International Joint Institute (FIJI) is a specialized orthopaedic practice in Boca Raton led by Dr. Edgar Handal. We focus on one thing and do it well: surgery of the hip, knee and shoulder. Our patients come from down the street, across the country and overseas — many of them nervous about an upcoming joint replacement, and all of them looking for someone who has it handled.
About the Role
As our Front Office Coordinator, you'll own the patient experience from the first phone call to check-out. You'll make sure every visit is scheduled, insured and billed correctly before the patient walks in, and that every chart is accurate when they leave. Our surgeon and billing team rely on your work every day. We're looking for someone who catches the insurance problem before it becomes the patient's problem.
Why This Role
• Real ownership: you run the front office, not just the front desk. You'll become the person who knows how everything in the practice works.
• A focused specialty: hip, knee and shoulder surgery. You'll build deep, specific expertise fast.
• Work that matters: our patients are often preparing for major surgery. A calm, organized front office makes that easier, and they notice.
What You'll Own
Patient flow
• Welcome and check in every patient, and check them out with their follow-up booked
• Manage the schedule: book appointments, confirm upcoming visits and keep the day running on time
• Handle a busy phone line with care and accuracy
Insurance, referrals and payments
• Verify eligibility and benefits before each visit, and flag issues early
• Obtain referrals and send orders to outside providers
• Collect copays and outstanding balances, print superbills, and complete the end-of-day close
Records and communication
• Register new patients and keep charts accurate in MDLogic, our EMR
• Scan records and add notes so the surgeon has what he needs at every visit
• Monitor the office's faxes and emails, and respond to or route each one
• Keep the office stocked by tracking the supplies it needs
You'll Do Well Here If You
• Have 1 years at the front desk of a medical or dental office
• Know your way around insurance verification, copays and patient balances
• Work confidently in an EMR and on a multi-line phone
• Stay warm and professional with patients, even on the busiest days
• Are detail-oriented and protect patient privacy (HIPAA)
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent
Bonus Points
• Experience with MDLogic or a similar EMR
• Experience in an orthopaedic or surgical practice
• Familiarity with referrals, prior authorizations and Medicare
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
Schedule and Pay
• Schedule: Part-time, 3 days a week — Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
• Pay: $18-20 per hour
