Duties
- Assist patients in choosing eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other optical products, ensuring they find the best fit for their needs and style preferences.
- Take precise measurements of patients’ eyes, including pupillary distance and frame fitting, to ensure optimal vision correction.
- Support ophthalmology and optometry professionals by preparing exam rooms, handling medical records, and managing electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic or EMR platforms.
- Conduct basic eye assessments, including vital signs and visual acuity tests, to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Maintain laboratory experience by processing lens orders, verifying prescriptions, and ensuring quality control of optical products.
- Manage retail sales transactions accurately using retail math principles while providing excellent customer service.
- Follow HIPAA regulations diligently to protect patient privacy and handle medical terminology with clarity and professionalism.
- Support pediatric and senior care patients by demonstrating patience, understanding their unique needs, and applying specialized knowledge of physiology and anatomy.
- Assist with medical billing and coding procedures to ensure accurate documentation for insurance claims and patient records.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in optical retail or clinic settings is highly preferred; familiarity with optical experience is essential.
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology concepts, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and laboratory techniques.
- Experience working with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms; understanding of medical records management is advantageous.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards to ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Ability to perform vital signs assessment accurately; familiarity with aseptic techniques is a plus for maintaining sterile environments during procedures.
- Excellent communication skills to explain technical information clearly to patients of all ages, including pediatrics and senior care populations.
- Basic retail management skills combined with retail math proficiency for sales transactions and inventory management.
