Executive Director
The Florida Community Health Worker (CHW) Coalition is a small, mission-driven nonprofit organization that serves as the recognized professional home, voice, and convener for Community Health Workers and their allies across Florida. The Coalition exists to strengthen and elevate the CHW workforce—the trusted bridge between healthcare systems, social services, and the communities they serve.
Today, the Coalition continues to serve as:
- The statewide hub for CHW connection, learning, mentorship, and professional identity
- A collaborator with state and local agencies, health systems, academic partners, policymakers, community-based organizations, and funders
- A champion for CHW certification, standards, training, and meaningful workforce integration
We provide networking forums, competency-based training, policy advocacy, community engagement, and information and resources for CHWs and organizations employing them.
JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and operational leader of the Florida Community Health Worker Coalition. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this position is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission, vision, and statewide impact while strengthening long-term sustainability. This role oversees all organizational planning, programs, and services—providing strategic leadership, ensuring effective implementation, and delivering or coordinating training and community engagement activities. The Executive Director also serves as the Program Manager for all community health programs, maintaining full programmatic authority and accountability.
The Executive Director ensures that programs are managed efficiently; comply with contractual, regulatory, and funding requirements; meet performance and reporting expectations; and remain aligned with the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and demonstrates community impact.
The individual must be a highly organized, proactive leader capable of managing multiple programs and deliverables while remaining adaptable and responsive to organizational growth. This role ensures that program strategies, community health promotion, and prevention activities are informed by data, responsive to emerging health trends, and aligned with statewide priorities supporting the integration of Community Health Workers across social care and health systems. Strong collaboration skills are essential, including the ability to work effectively with health systems, community-based partners, funders, CHWs, and other stakeholders to expand the organization’s reach and impact across Florida. SUPERVISION
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and provides supervision to staff, CHWs, program teams, and contractors as assigned.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in public health, health administration, human services, or a related field
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit, public health, or community-based organizations
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- Experience with strategic planning, organizational development, and sustainability initiatives
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams), and online collaboration tools
- Process a demonstrated understanding of the Community Health Worker model
- Strong project coordination, communication, data literacy, and leadership skills
- Demonstrated training experience

- In-depth understanding of Community Health Worker roles, competencies, and workflows.
- Skilled in strategic and sustainability planning, and organizational visioning.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.

- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with funders, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Familiarity with public health indicators, qualitative and quantitative data, and program evaluation

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership and Vision Expansion
- Lead the development, execution, and refinement of the Coalition’s strategic vision
- Prioritize sustainability planning, funding diversification, and long-term organizational stability
- Identify funding, partnership, and program expansion opportunities
- Lead strategic planning retreats, Board engagement, and organizational development activities
Program Oversight
- Oversee and promote participation in statewide community health programs and initiatives
- Manage planning and implementation of programs supporting individuals with chronic conditions and those at risk for diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and related conditions
- Coordinate community-based prevention activities delivered by CHWs and partners
- Support training, technical assistance, and professional development opportunities for CHWs and stakeholders
- Ensure prevention strategies align with current health data and best practices
- Provide direct support for reports, presentations, grant applications, and organizational materials
Partnerships, Stakeholder Engagement, and Representation
- Build, strengthen, and sustain partnerships statewide
- Represent the Coalition professionally at meetings, events, and statewide initiatives
- Engage Department of Health leadership and external agencies to support coordinated health planning activities
Data, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Oversee collection, analysis, and reporting of qualitative and quantitative data
- Ensure accurate tracking of deliverables and compliance with funder requirements
- Review, prepare, and disseminate reports demonstrating the effectiveness, impact, and value of CHWs
Operations, Communications, and External Relations
- Participate in grant writing, funder communications, and sustainability reporting
- Oversee audits, monitoring visits, and site reviews
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff, CHWs, contractors, and project teams
Other Duties
- Statewide travel and occasional evening or weekend work as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Florida driver’s license and insurance
- Ability to perform light physical activity (lifting under 25 pounds)
- Two-week notice required for voluntary resignation
- Commitment to professionalism, respect, and non-biased representation of the organization
