Position Summary:
The department of Student Accessibility Services is seeking SAS Student Assistants.

This position incorporates a combination of responsibilities – paid notetaker, lab assistant, front desk personnel, and exam proctor.
Summary of Responsibilities Include:
SAS Paid Notetaker
- Attend assigned courses with a registered student with disabilities who is unable to take notes for themselves.
- Able to take notes on several topics; review the notes before giving the notes to the student.
- Must be in class on time and sit with the student that he/she is notetaking for in the assigned course. Notes should be detailed and written neatly or typed and given to the student directly after class or sent later to the student via their FAU email account no later than 24 hours after the class has ended.
SAS Lab Assistant
- Attend assigned courses with a registered student with disabilities who is unable to perform lab projects for themselves.
- Able to perform lab duties in a variety of Science, Engineering and Art courses.
- Dress appropriately for the lab. For example: for Science courses, lab coat, googles (provided by SAS) and closed-toe shoes must be worn.
- Must be in class on time, sit with the student and follow their directions for performing the lab duties that need to be completed. Lab assistant cannot assist in answering questions or resolving issues with a given lab assignment.
Front Desk Student responsibilities:
- Responsible for answering phone calls, transferring calls, taking messages for staff, scheduling appointments, and answering questions that SAS students and families may ask.
- Knowledgeable about SAS website, forms, policies, and procedures.
- Understand that information at SAS are confidential, and that the office operates under both FERPA and HIPAA.
- Provide good customer service as they are the point of contact for students, faculty, staff, parents, and the FAU community.
Exam Proctor responsibilities:
- Watch the testing security cameras while SAS students are taking their exams and make sure students do not violate the FAU Code of Academic Integrity.
- Proctor exams with approved exam accommodations; ask SAS student for ID verification prior to start of the exam.
- Ensure SAS students only have the professor’s approved material prior to start of the exam.
Minimum Qualifications:
FAU degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits per semester (12 credits for international students) and overall 3.0 GPA.No academic or student conduct holds on record.
Ability to work with diverse student population.
The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are essential.
Strong notetaking skills are essential.
Applicants must be trustworthy and be able to preserve confidentiality.
Must have at least one year left at FAU.
SAS is a very fast-paced working environment, so must be able to learn fast and apply what was learned immediately.
