Florida A&M University's Facilities, Planning, Construction and Safety/Plant Operations and Maintenance Department/Utilities Section (HVAC Shop) is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Maintenance Support Worker vacancy.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance on air handling units, pumps and related HVAC equipment; Change filters in air conditioning units/air handling units, tighten v-belt on equipment, grease bearings, observe and institute work orders for problems in mechanical rooms; and complete AHU-AC Unit Filter Replacement forms, maintain the use/consumption records, and restock filters by size.
Properly obtain, carry, lift, and position equipment, parts, supplies and tools, (up to 75lbs.) needed to install, disassemble and repair HVAC control equipment in a timely manner while assisting other technicians; This includes carrying work tools, equipment ladders, etc. and walking up and down stairways (up to 4 floors) in campus buildings; Accurately develop general and preventive maintenance skills, i.e., properly tighten connections; Make wiring splices; insulate (tape) and repair damaged and exposed wiring; repair and/or replace pneumatic tubing (both copper and plastic); Assist in testing and calibrating thermostats and other electronic equipment; and pick up parts, equipment, materials, supplies and the like.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalency and/or trade or vocational school graduate and one year of related experience in carpentry, locksmith, painting, life safety, electrical, plumbing and general building systems and service equipment installation, maintenance and repair. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of the procedures and methods used in equipment, maintenance and/or operation;
Skill in using a grease gun and various other HVAC tools;
Ability to understand the operation of air handling units, air compressors and their components;
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments;
Ability to bend, kneel and lift a minimum of 75 pounds;
Ability to understand and apply mechanical aptitude;
Ability to adjust v-belts on motors and fans on HVAC equipment;
Ability to maintain accurate records;
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
Ability to communicate effectively; and,
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Anticipated Salary Range
The salary for this position is $31,320 annually or $15 per hour.
Licenses and Certifications
Must maintain a valid Driver's License.

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
