Florida A&M University's Facilities, Planning, Construction & Safety/Plant Operations and Maintenance/Housing Custodial Department is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Custodial Worker vacancy. This advertisement will be used to fill multiple vacancies.
Responsibilities
Cleans and disinfects rest rooms; cleans and disinfects floors, partitions and all fixtures daily; cleans and disinfects doors; cleans and sanitizes all showers, shower curtains, urinals, commodes, and wash basins in all rest rooms on a daily basis; de-scales under urinals and toilet lips daily; polishes chrome fixtures daily and cleans mirrors daily; empties trash at least two times daily; and cleans wall cleaning and baseboards daily.
Cleans meeting rooms, common areas, offices, multi-purpose areas, hallways etc.; sweeps, vacuums, scrubs, and mops entrances, lounges, lobbies, offices, corridors, bathrooms, and stairways a minimum of once daily or as needed; empties trash two times per day; dusts and cleans furniture, window sills, etc. weekly or as needed; and sprays buff or cleans carpets as needed; cleans, dusts, waxes or polishes all furniture, surface (walls, baseboards), window panes (sills, ledges) in public areas, lavatories and offices daily.
Cleans hallways, stairwells and entrances; dusts, mops or sweeps, wet mops or vacuums daily; cleans glass as needed; removes trash and debris at a minimum of ten (10) feet from entrances; and keeps entrances clean and dry during inclement weather.
Performs room set up duties associated with events:
Arranges tables, chairs, staging, bars, dividers, directional signs, etc. for meetings and events; sets up and tests house and portable sound systems as needed; sets up and test audio visual equipment as requested; sets up student rooms with appropriate furniture; and adjusts room for comfort as needed.
Performs a variety of building maintenance work:
Effectively uses power equipment to strip, wax and buff floors and to shampoo carpets, runners and upholstered furniture; cleans and maintains power equipment; checks and replaces belts, etc. as needed; and performs miscellaneous grounds maintenance such as picking up brush and trash off the facilities grounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of ninth grade; or relevant work experience equivalent to ninth grade.
Recommended Competencies
Knowledge of the practices and procedures of custodial work;
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate a variety of production equipment;
Ability to meet physical requirements of position;
Knowledge of and ability to apply set research and laboratory procedures and safety practices;
Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques;
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices; and,
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Anticipated Salary Range
The salary for this position is $31,320 annually or $15 per hour.
Licenses and Certifications
Must maintain a valid Driver's License.
Pay Plan
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
Conditions of Employment

Time Limited Position
This position is "time-limited". Time limited positions are funded by a contract or grant, auxiliaries and local funds having a defined expiration date. Schedule
Scheduled work hours are 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday.

PLEASE NOTE: This position is an essential position that is expected to function during emergency situations.
Due to the Department's twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week mission requirement, the employee may be required to work on Holidays, weekends, Winter & Summer Breaks, and have Mandatory Overtime.
