PRIMARY PURPOSE / FUNCTION:

The HS Academic Dean assists and advises the Principal in the management of the teaching-learning process and the development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs. Provide for the development, alignment, and implementation of quality curriculum to enhance student achievement; Plan and provide professional development for teachers and staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

Master's degree

Valid Texas teaching certification

Valid Texas Administrative/Principal

 Certified in State Appraisal System

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of state and local policies and procedures related to curriculum, instruction, staffing, and budget.

Ability to assess and modify an effective instructional program

Demonstrate leadership ability

Demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively which leads to quality performance in a team atmosphere

Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

Working knowledge of computer technology and the associated software tools required

Ability to analyze data for decision making and planning

 

 

Experience:

Minimum of five years as a secondary classroom teacher Administrative experience or curriculum/instruction experience preferred

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  • Assist the Principal in the overall administration of instructional programs and master schedule.
  • Assist with developing a campus budget relating to staff development, curriculum, instructional delivery, and assessment.
  • Facilitate and assist with the development of an effective campus improvement plan based on student needs.
  • Manage and coordinate PLC meetings with high school teachers to plan, design, and implement successful instructional programs and strategies.
  • Conduct frequent classroom walkthroughs s and provide teachers feedback on instruction while assisting in developing, implementing, and assessing best practice teaching methodologies in the classroom.
  • Coach and train teachers to utilize various instructional strategies to meet student learning needs.
  • Model effective classroom management and instructional techniques which when appropriately implemented by the classroom teacher will lead to improved student performance.
  • Analyze campus developed test for relevance and content.
  • Analyze diagnostics, benchmarks, and local and state assessment results and work with teams on setting goals in instruction to support the students.
  • Coordinate STAAR/STAAR-EOC tutorials, remediation, and Response to Intervention processes on campus.
  • Facilitate, through the professional growth of teachers and staff, improved student performance as measured by course work, STAAR, STAAR-EOC, and other assessment data.
  • Assist the Principal in developing, maintaining, and using information systems to maintain records to track progress on-campus performance objectives and goals.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional resources to meet student learning needs.
  • Effectively work with and serve as a liaison between the campuses and the District Teaching and Learning department regarding student assessment, improvement planning, curriculum and instruction, revision, and development.
  • Assist with coordinating the student assessment program
  • Assist with development of courses offered to students
  • Participate in professional development activities to increase job performance and effectiveness.
  • Assist with extra-curricular supervision
  • Foster and promote collegiality and team building throughout the community.
  • Daily attendance and punctuality
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand and move throughout the room and/or facility. Duties also include moderate standing, stooping, bending, lifting/transport of up to 50lbs, and the ability to work with frequent interruptions. Frequent district-wide and statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
