This position is responsible to work in the toddler classroom with another toddler caregiver with a child/staff ratio of no more than 4:1. This position is responsible to ensure the necessary care, nurturing, cognitive, emotional, social and physical stimulation is consistently

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide all care for toddlers including feeding cleaning, toileting, providing infant/toddler stimulation/development programs, and nurturing.
  2. Provide love, guidance, and understanding to develop a sense of self-worth and respect in each child.
  3. Follow guidelines established by the Department of Health, Quality Counts, Family Central to meet curricular and age-appropriate practices.
  4. Assorted nursery duties such as cleaning the classroom, tables, chairs, toys, kitchen and etc. as assigned.
  5. Communicate regularly with the Education Coordinator/Curriculum Teacher and work in cooperation with him/her to maintain established standards of compliance with developmentally appropriate practices in the infant nursery.
  6. Follow the guidelines of the appropriate curriculum for his/her assigned age group using the yearly curriculum guide and age-appropriate activities.
  7. Create and maintain current weekly/individual lesson plans for infants/toddler; maintain individual children files, individual children portfolios and classroom portfolio.
  8. Participate in evaluating the achievement and progress of each child.
  9. Write up any incident or accident occurring under his/her supervision and submit the report to the Nurse/Center Director.
  10. Emphasize health, hygiene, and proper nutrition by visually checking each child as they arrive and providing guidance hand washing and bathroom usage. Proper nutrition is to be encouraged throughout the day.
  11. Use the discipline (guidance) techniques found in the Staff Manual in accord with the Palm Beach County Health Department regulations.
  12. Attending staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, in-service trainings, meets the CDA requirements and work towards infant/toddler ECE associate degree program or higher.
  13. Work with volunteers, work/study students and Adopt-A-Class families in carrying out the classroom program.
  14. Decorate the classroom and the parent/bulletin board, making sure the children’s work is displayed and all toys and selves are labeled with pictures and words in the classroom.
  15. Report suspected child abuse as required by law to the Center Director/Education Coordinator, Director from other Center, and/ or CEO. In their absence report directly to the Child Abuse Hotline.
  16. Request for the materials, supplies and equipment necessary to carry out the curriculum plan and report needs to the Education Coordinator.
  17. Maintain and up-date annually an inventory system for the infant nursery.
  18. Work in partnership with parents keeping communication open and ongoing. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and home visits for each child twice a year.
  19. Represent Florence Fuller Child Development Centers Inc. in the community at large and to each visitor, group and parent.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
  21. Perform required computer skills.
Minimum Education and Experience Required:
  • AA in Early Childhood or Elementary Education preferred, Bachelors in Elementary Education a plus.
  • DCF 45 hour training.(or completed within the first 90-days of employment)
  • At least 2 years experience working with children.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  • Thorough understanding of the instructional methodology.
Language Skills:
This role requires a strong command of the English language, including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional documents and technical procedures. You should be proficient in typing reports, entering data, and generally possess the computer skills needed for the role. Effective communication in English is key. Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese a plus.
Other Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to professional and effectively communicate with other educations, parents and community leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative thinker.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds and provide physical assistance in the transportation of special needs children by lifting child into seat and fastening safety belt. Reasonable accommodation may be made for otherwise qualified persons with disabilities.
