Casting for Floor Thirteen's Fall 2026 Season

Floor Thirteen Theatrical Laboratory
Brooklyn, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 8/20/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/19/2026

DESCRIPTION

WHO ARE WE?

Floor Thirteen Theatrical Laboratory is a devised theatre collective. Every year we create brand new works to be put up in New York City. Our process is unique, in that much of the script is not pre-written. Instead, we write roles around the scenes actors create through improvisation exercises. This year, our company has been hard at work developing the preliminary story and text for two brand new full-length productions. Through the discovery process, however, we found the story wanted a few more important characters. As such, we are seeking enthusiastic, dedicated actors to join our process and become a part of creating brand new, exciting theatre written around them and for them to play in.

A brief description of each play, as well as the roles required for each, are listed below.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT?

Mired

A modern-day retelling of Lysistrata, this pithy dark comedy explores how a group of women from a small town in Florida band together to end gun violence in their community.

Roles:

DICKY (M, 40s-60s): A conservative vet turned grumpy old man since his wife Eileen died five years ago; loneliness has definitely radicalized him, and he often gets far too attached to fast food chains.

DEB (F, 60s-70s): A liberal snowbird from NYC who loves Elvis and once jumped onstage at Woodstock; a bingo aficionado who was fighting on the front lines of the second wave of feminism, she takes no prisoners.

MIRABELLE (F, 20s-30s): A fiery strip dancer who never holds back an opinion; she has two kids but doesn'tn let that hold her back. She works at the Greasy Flamingo but teaches pole dancing on the weekends. Kind of a bully, but in a cute cunty way.

KENNY (M, 20s-30s): A himbo with a heart of gold, he's kind of a Florida Man - but in a charming way. He loves guns and jetskis, but not more than he loves his wife Mirabelle.

Unnamed Piece (The War Play)

Devised from a series of wartime epic poems such as The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot and Songs of Myself by Walt Whitman, this drama follows three couples through an era of loss, loneliness, and rebirth as they try to stem the tide of darkness around them and find meaning in it all.

Role:

HOWL: (M, 20s-30s) A renegade and a poet, Howl is based off the Alan Ginsberg poem of the same name. After years of activism and a lifetime of fighting the power, he finds himself broken and alone at the end of the world. When a mysterious and aggravatingly optimistic visitor arrives, however, he wonders if there may be hope for him yet.

IMPORTANT DATES

Both pieces currently rehearse in Downtown Manhattan. Mired currently rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6pm-8pm; The War Play currently rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm-4pm.

In October, rehearsal frequency will increase in anticipation of our November opening. Expect 2-4 weekly rehearsals, culminating in a tech schedule during the first week of November.

Show Dates:

November 15th, 16th, and 22nd @7pm and @9:30pm
