Position Summary: Perform watch and patrol duties as directed, essential for the protection of patients, staff, public and property. You will conduct unarmed foot patrol (interior and/or exterior), control access and egress, monitor alarm systems, compose reports, deter criminal activity and misconduct, and perform other duties as instructed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides direct patient care including, but not limited to: proactively de-escalating volatile situations, specimen collection, obtaining vital signs, escorting and providing security for all patients, staff and facility.
- Provides security assistance to mental health nursing staff and other Behavioral Health disciplines during routine and urgent/emergent patient care situations.
- Recognizes changes in patient’s affect, behavior, mood, and level of suicidality or self-harm
- Responds to all emergency pages including emergency stat calls, code blues, fire, tornado warnings, etc.
- Acts as a permanent member of the crisis response team and participating in situational debriefing post incident.
- Responsible for recording and securing patient valuables in accordance with unit guidelines.
- Conducts searches of patients and patient belongings to verify no contraband or sharp objects are available.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a current and valid driver’s license
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Basic CPR certification
- Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
- Attention to detail
- Must be able to handle temper in provocative situations with the goal in mind of preserving the peace and harmony of the environment
