What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attendance Agent position at Flint Community Schools?
The Attendance Agent contributes to student success by promoting regular attendance, investigating causes of absenteeism, and building strong school-home partnerships. The Attendance Agent provides specialized support to ensure compliance with attendance policies and state regulations, including making home visits, collaborating with school staff, and supporting families in overcoming barriers to school attendance.
Essential Functions (May include, but not limited to):
1. Contribute to raising student achievement by improving overall school attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism.
2. Promote positive attitudes toward education among students and families while ensuring parents are aware of their legal responsibilities regarding school attendance.
3. Provide technical assistance and support to parents in developing effective home-school-community partnerships that promote student attendance.
4. Conduct unsupervised home visits and community outreach to assess and address reasons for absenteeism and encourage re-engagement in education.
5. Foster healthy, supportive family attitudes toward academic success, student growth, and consistent school attendance.
6. Investigate cases of persistent absences and tardiness and implement interventions to improve attendance and punctuality.
7. Collaborate with school staff, students, and families to identify attendance barriers and develop individualized plans to facilitate a return to school.
8. Advise school leadership on effective strategies to promote regular attendance and support the implementation of attendance improvement initiatives.
9. Participate in meetings with school teams, students, and families to review attendance data, discuss concerns, and plan appropriate interventions.
10. Maintain clear, detailed documentation of all home visits, communications, interventions, and required reports such as action plans and progress summaries.
11. Report any unsafe or detrimental conditions that may negatively impact a student’s safety, welfare, or ability to attend school.
12. Stay informed of and comply with applicable laws and regulations related to attendance, child welfare, child labor, and special education to provide accurate guidance.
13. Serve as a liaison between the school and outside agencies such as law enforcement, social services, health services, and housing authorities to coordinate support.
14. Uphold ethical standards in all interactions with students, families, school personnel, and community partners, ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive information.
15. Serve as a professional role model for students and staff by demonstrating a strong work ethic, appropriate dress, and respectful behavior.
16. Participate in professional development opportunities.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership, within the scope of the role.

Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Other requirements:
Must comply with the Student Safety Initiative Legislation, as amended. Newly hired staff are required to successfully complete the following pre-employment screenings: 1) Criminal background check, including national and local clearance.

Special Job Considerations:
Salary Schedule: $18.00 per hour, 7 hours per day, 242 days per year, no benefits
