Mid-level Mechanical Design Engineer with strong analytic and design skills, who also enjoys the hands on aspects of building and prototyping.  The candidate should be comfortable with fast paced technical projects, and with defining their own requirements.  We are looking for a motivated problem solver who can communicate clearly and work well in a team.


Responsibilities May Include:



  • Detailed metallic part design & analysis

  • Detailed design of composite structures

  • 3D printed and injection molded plastic part design

  • Work with Finite Element Analysis partners to analyze and optimize structural design.

  • Manage design projects to cost, schedule, and performance targets

  • Manage large assembly models in CAD, and implement best practice top-down modelling practices

  • Create interface control documents

  • Generate product and sub-system requirements 

  • Fabricate and test prototypes

  • Interface with vendors to manufacture designs you create

  • Generate fully and minimally dimensioned drawings as required

  • Generate and maintain BOMs

  • Prepare design presentations and summaries to document work.

  • Demonstrate initiative by understanding what actions need to be taken and completing the required tasks while seeking the perspective of others as required.


Job Requirements:



  • Minimum BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Degrees and Professional Licensing are a plus

  • 3-7 years experience in a related mechanical engineering role

  • Composite experience; part design and bonded composite/metallic structures

  • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques; composites molding, machining, 3D printing

  • Hands on experience building and prototyping your own designs.

  • Familiarity with aircraft or unmanned aircraft (UAV, UAS, drone) is a strong plus

  • Position requires some domestic travel

  • Must have U.S. person status


Desired Skills:



  • Solidworks (2 years experience minimum)

  • Finite Element Analysis -Solidworks Simulation or other similar software

  • Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, Powerpoint

  • Matlab or Octave experience a plus

  • Familiarity with project management tools such as MS Project

  • Familiarity with hand tools used for light prototyping (drills, dremels, etc)
