Litigation Associate

Flicker Garelick & Associates (FGA) is a prestigious defense law firm located in New York City. Since 1985, we have proudly served as counsel to the most prominent U.S. and overseas-based corporations in the defense contracting, insurance and maritime industries. FGA is committed to providing the highest quality legal services while fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment for its attorneys.

Position Overview

FGA is seeking a litigation associate to join its specialized federal workers’ compensation defense practice. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of litigation experience, including exposure to insurance defense or administrative litigation. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of litigation, including but not limited to drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs; managing discovery; conducting and defending depositions; and appearing before administrative tribunals. While the primary focus of this position is defending claims under federal workers’ compensation statutes, the role also offers opportunities to handle litigation within the firm’s broader practice areas.

At FGA, we invest in the professional growth of our attorneys. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to develop niche expertise in a highly specialized area of law while gaining broad-based litigation experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in proceedings before administrative tribunals, and where appropriate, in federal court
  • Participate in mediations and appellate matters as appropriate
  • Manage assigned matters with minimal supervision from inception to resolution
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and settlement agreements
  • Lead and manage all aspects of discovery, including developing discovery strategy, drafting and responding to discovery requests, reviewing and analyzing records and documentary evidence, and identifying evidentiary strengths, weaknesses, and dispositive issues
  • Conduct detailed factual and evidentiary analysis, with close attention to medical records, employment records, and other case-critical documents to support hearings, depositions, and settlement strategy
  • Prepare for and participate in depositions and hearings
  • Prepare, negotiate, and file settlements and related legal filings in accordance with applicable procedural requirements
  • Provide clear, timely, and strategic reporting to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Monitor and remain current on changes in applicable laws, regulations, and procedural rules

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in New York (New Jersey admission is a plus)
  • 2-5 years of litigation experience (insurance defense or administrative law experience is a plus)
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and advocacy skills
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills

The expected starting salary range for this position is $125,000 – $150,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered. In addition to the base salary and an employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.

FGA is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of background. We will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable fair chance laws.
