Position Summary
The
Landfill Engineer
will play a key role in ensuring the efficient operation of the landfill. This position supports landfill operations, regulatory permitting and compliance, construction, and environmental management systems.
Essential Functions
- Provide technical support on landfill systems related to waste disposal operations
- Develop a strong understanding of permits governing landfill and transfer station operations to ensure compliance
- Work with consulting firms on compliance reports, permitting, and construction documents
- Review consultant submissions for regulatory compliance and operational accuracy
- Support landfill construction activities (cell development, materials ordering, contractor scheduling, CQA oversight, etc.)
- Prepare, review, and submit engineering, monitoring, and environmental reports
- Lead environmental reviews, audits, and inspections with regulators, customers, and internal teams
- Partner with operations to develop short- and long-term goals and action plans
- Identify and estimate site capital needs and support annual budget planning
- Maintain positive working relationships with state and local regulatory agencies
- Review waste profiles for adherence to the waste acceptance plan and coordinate with sales/operations on special waste
- Complete monthly soil tracking reports and other required status updates
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- 3–7 years of landfill-related engineering experience
- Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, professional journals, and regulations
- Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus
- GPS or drone surveying experience preferred
