We have an open Engineering Manager position and are looking for an intelligent, driven, innovative leader to join our Engineering team.
About the Role
This is a working manager position that blends leadership with hands-on engineering. You will oversee day-to-day engineering operations with a single direct report while actively contributing to machine design, equipment improvements, trouble shooting, and project execution.
Flexo Concepts is unique in that we design and build the equipment used to make our finished product. An ideal candidate for this role would be passionate about the full engineering cycle (design through build) and have experience in several engineering disciplines (mechanical, process, electrical).
You will report to the President and join a five-member Management Team. You will guide engineering priorities, develop process and equipment improvements, and support production in a high-mix manufacturing environment.
This role is full-time and based at our Plymouth, MA office.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering team of two by setting clear priorities, assigning work, and ensuring timely execution of engineering projects.
- Oversee the conceptualization and prototyping of next-generation manufacturing processes, translating ideas into practical equipment concepts.
- Lead design, testing, and validation of prototype machinery to prove out new methods, ensuring successful transition into final production equipment.
- Guide the development and build of custom equipment that enables advanced manufacturing capabilities and supports long-term product innovation.
- Oversee engineering design standards, reviewing drawings, tolerances, and documentation to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
- Oversee multiple engineering projects concurrently, ensuring effective planning, coordination, and attention to detail.
- Manage vendor relationships, sourcing efforts, and procurement for engineering-related materials, components, and equipment.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by evaluating processes and ideas, identifying opportunities, and leading implementation of engineering solutions.
- Ensure engineering systems and workspaces remain organized, safe, and aligned with best practices in equipment care, workflow, and cleanliness.
- Represent Engineering on Management Team, collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Production, Customer Service, and other departments to support broader organizational goals.
- Review and deliver project reports, engineering analyses, and technical summaries for internal stakeholders.
- Support Manufacturing by addressing equipment-related questions, ensuring smooth production operations.
- Lead and support the Engineering team’s participation in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing programs.
- Utilize Salesforce to manage engineering workflow, project tracking, and purchasing requisitions.
- Work with external partners on the specification and acquisition of new equipment and custom machinery.
- Present engineering updates and progress during weekly Engineering meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Develop a strong understanding of the company’s product portfolio and its applications in customer processes.
- Participate in new product development, performing product analysis manufacturability testing.
- Participate in facility management projects as requested.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, with the ability to guide team members on design best practices
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of equipment, design, pneumatics, drives & controls (electrical, pneumatic), materials and processes.
- Effective time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities and projects
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills across all levels of the company
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with traditional machine shop equipment (mill, lathe)
- Experience programming PLCs, HMIs, etc.
- 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment with leadership responsibility
- Portfolio of professional, academic, or personal engineering projects
