In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring technical materials, components, and services required to support production and operations. This role combines procurement expertise with a strong understanding of engineering specifications, supplier capabilities, and cost optimization strategies.
Responsibilities
- Source and procure technical components, raw materials, and services in alignment with engineering and production requirements
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and BOMs (Bill of Materials) to ensure correct material selection
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and technical capability
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to achieve cost savings and favorable conditions
- Issue and manage purchase orders, ensuring timely delivery and order accuracy
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical or supply issues
- Monitor supplier performance and implement improvement actions where needed
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including pricing, supplier data, and material lead times
- Manage inventory levels to support production while minimizing carrying costs
- Support new product introductions by sourcing and qualifying new materials and suppliers
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis
- 3 years of purchasing or procurement experience in a technical or manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, or industrial components (depending on industry)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Knowledge of sourcing strategies and supply chain best practices
- Certification in supply chain or procurement (e.g., ASCM/APICS, ISM)
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices
