Test Lab Technician - R & D

Position Summary

The Test Lab Technician supports the R&D laboratory in prototype and product testing for design validation development and quality certification. This role is responsible for test setup, hands-on testing, selecting appropriate equipment and test methods, and creating test reports. This position also contributes to basic fixture development and build, equipment-troubleshooting, and test data collection and documentation to support engineering decisions.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Work under direction of R&D Test Lab Supervisor to support testing activities.
• Display a professional and collaborative attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and cross-functional teams.
• Read, interpret and apply testing specifications, standards and requirements accurately to ensure proper test setup execution.
• Prepare and organize test samples before testing.
• Design and build fixtures required for test preparation.
• Perform routine performance testing for both prototypes and products independently following training.
• Maintain accurate records of test data, observation and results.
• Operate and monitor various test equipment and automation program as needed.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, including performing basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
• Compile and generate clear, accurate, and timely test reports.
• Participate in regular alignment meetings with engineering teams.
• Ensure testing activities align with roadmap goals; adjust priorities as needed.
• Work flexible hours outside of 1st shift, as required.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Test setups and results are consistently accurate, with minimal errors or rework required.
• Testing is completed on schedule, supporting project milestones and minimizing delays.
• Demonstrate proficiency in operating test equipment, interpreting specifications, and executing test methods independently follow training.
• Maintain good communication and alignment with R&D supervisors, co-workers, and engineering teams.
  
  

Qualifications

• Mechanical-related work experience or high school degree of mechanical aptitude required or equivalent Military/Technical training
• Hands-on experience with lab testing equipment and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and reporting.
• Basic troubleshooting and fixture-building skills. Ability to work independently in solving problems.
• Ability to follow technical instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work outside standard hours as needed.
  
  

Working Conditions

• Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; lift/push/pull fine motor skills/tasks; use of PPE.
• Be aware of safety concerns and report or resolve the issue in a timely manner
• Work in test lab and office settings.
• Occasional travel to expos or equipment/tool suppliers.
